Default annoying door ding in an unusual spot

I am very annoyed about a door ding I just got but some assh$ole. Somehow their door hit the chrome trim right below the drivers window just above the door handle. It will annoy me every time I grab for th door handle so it must be fixed.

Does anyone know how hard it is to remove this trim? I was thinking I could buy this piece from th dealer and diy. If I have to take the whole door apart I will have to go to a body shop.
Please advise. Thanks
Charlie

Sorry I can't help, but what a coincidence. I have a ding in the very same spot! It was there when I purchase my otherwise perfect body LS430. I had a door ding person look at it and he said the chrome would have to be replace. Haven't done it yet, but like you said it is very bothersome.

Usually if you can pretty easily see how the trim goes on after you closely examine the part - buy the chrome trim and it should eb apparent how it goes on. Most trim is pretty easy to put on and typically mounts form the outside. The parts guy should also be able to tell you what fasteners it uses which will tell you if it mounts for the inside. It no conciliation I know but getting chrome trim dinged is much better than having your paint and/or door take that same hit....much easier to fix trim than a nasty body/paint ding.

The moulding is held by several clips like in the upper-left-hand-side of the drawing.

When I look at the drawing, it looks to me that everything is done from the outside and that the moulding-strip is just pushed-on on the top-door-edge by means of the (5?) clips.

i have never had a belt molding that i havent had to remove the door panel but this may be different.if the door panel isnt removed you will most likely break a clip or two putting the molding back on.taking the old one off will likely break all the clips off.

Jac -

I think he's talking about the original pic in post #2 (which I can't see on my PC either).

Btw, thanks for all your helpful contributions as exemplified by post #6!
