Intermittent steering shake upon braking
#31
My mechanic told me that althrough he could turn the rotors again, he would suggest getting new Lexus rotors. He told me that it is not unusual for toyota rotors to warp easily. He purchased a new Tacoma and after 3,000 miles he got the steering wheel shake on braking. He turned the rotors and it was fine until he replaced the pads and then it came back. He now has 150,000 miles and has learned to live with the shaking after all this time. I would like to know if there is toyota vehicle using the same Lexus part number to save a view bucks. Does anyone know?

I wouldn't bother turning the rotors. It just means there's less metal to dissipate the heat, meaning they will "warp" soon thereafter. It's better to replace the rotors and pads together. Make sure to bed the pads in well. Also make sure the calipers are torqued correctly. You need to replace the aluminum caliper bolts since they are single use.

It was probably pins. Our bolts don't slide like some other designs.

I have not done brakes on this car but understand by whatever name i am going to lube the piece that moves/slides, so do you know "if the bolts are one time use?"and or their torque spec?" BC that was the real question

Pins are the ones you want to high temp caliper grease on. They hold the metal piece that holds brakes and brakes need to move freely when applied.
