Default California car -- should I be concerned??

Hello everyone,

I am in the final stages of purchasing a 04 LS. I just seem all history and found it was originally a California car. The car has been in Texas, where I'm located, for the past 4 yrs. My concern: will all that emissions Crap California vehicles have be of a concern?

I work for a Harley dealer and all the bikes have much more emissions equipment on them. Rule of thumb with us is to stay away from those Harleys if u want power etc.

So please let me know your thoughts. Texas doesn't have emissions testifies. Should I pass on this car.

More info: documented lexus care with 81k miles for $19,000. All services performed and good tires.

Thanks

Phone typos....(1)California Harleys have added emissions Crap. (2)Texas doesn't have emissions testing.

I don't think cars sold in CA have different equipment on them anymore, just certification from the manufacturer. However, I may be wrong.

Yes, CA cars meet more stringent emissions standards, but these days there is little difference in what a manufacturer offers in California versus other states.

You might have items such as a little more catalyst precious metal loading, and the OBD evaporative emissions system leak test might detect a smaller leak. If there are differences to the emissions control systems, they will certainly be minor.

I would be happy its a California car instead of a car imported from the rust belt or Northeast where driving conditions are very harsh.

Go for it!
My dad's LS430 was from California, as was my mom's Mini Cooper S. Both have been perfectly reliable, with no real problems.

My 2005 LS430 came from Cali. Not sure if the smog in the LA area air had anything to do with early deterioration of the window rubber seal, but it was such a minor thing i just replaced it and moved on... If the car is clean and well taken care of you have nothing to worry about.

If anything, buyers oftentimes seek out California cars knowing (on avg.) they're less likely to have experienced extremes of climate/elements in terms of wear and tear. I've lived in the Northeast, Northwest, West (everywhere but Southeast U.S.) and California has by far been the most 'weather' friendly to my autos. I'd not hesitate in the least to buy a Cal. vehicle. YMMV ...
