Default Renewed vows with my 2001 LS430

Did a feeler sale on Craigslist over a week ago for $12500 firm for my Silver LS430 with 84K miles on it. It drew alot of interest and I actually had someone lined up to buy it ! Immediately had 2nd thoughts about selling it. With all the extras I put into it, I would be taking about a $3000 loss after 1 year of ownership. My goal was to pay off all my billis, rough it till next spring in a 1994 Camry. Then get a 2007-2008 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8.

While I was cleaning out the car for the new owner the next morning I really felt I was making a HUGE mistake. The car is in mint condition with no mechanical problems. It's so relaxing to drive and has been very reliable and I was only selling it because it looked a bit dated.

I guess fortunately the buyer couldn't come up with all the money right away. They actually wanted me to sign over the title with only 70% of the cash and pay me later in the week! I cancelled the transaction and cancelled the Ad. Guess I needed to be scared straight.

I am now enjoying my LS more than ever. We'll see how long this feeling lasts I wish I could keep cars for several years and drive them to the ground. I always find myself with the urge to get something newer.

I'm glad you kept her. I was in the same boat with my 02 but just couldn't get rid of her, these car drive better than a lot of old and new cars out here. I always traded cars bout every 3 years because I get bored quick with cars. I'm over the 3 year mark with the ls. I brought an injen intake and that's satisfying for now till I get some rims.

Yeah, they wanted to give me all cash and said they had to get the rest from a family member in a couple of days. They said they really wanted to register the car before the Labor day weekend. They sounded really trust worthy but my Spidey senses were tingling. Had they presented a certified check for the full price that day as I requested I would be posting that I miss my Ls already

Aside from the merits of keeping v. selling your car, you were correct in refusing that offer. A refundable cash deposit and a signed sales agreement with an expiration date would have accomplished the same goal of allowing the person time to gather the necessary funds. You saved yourself a lot of trouble taking them to court to collect the rest of the money.

Agree - When selling anything of value - "cash money or a bank/CU certified check or be off with you"

btw - you can usually call the bank/CU that a certified check is drawn on and verify the serial number and amount. Its easy to make a fake check these days with photo shop and a good scanner/copy printer so verify any high dollar check you are planning to accept as payment.
