My mom drives a 2002 ls430 and last week she was driving in the rain and hydroplaned into a mailbox. Fortunately only her mirror was damaged. Not realizing there was any difference I ordered a mirror off a 04-06. I was wondering if there is any way to use the mount on the door which is not broken with the new side mirror pod I purchased. The newer mirror goes over the trim on the door while the older version butts up to the top of the trim. I was going to post in the WTB but I haven't posted much on this forum

Thank you for the info!!
The plastic cover cracked pretty good but I have thought about trying to fix it and using the internals from the new mirror if possible. It is missing one of the motors and the glass.
The seller won't accept returns so I am stuck with the mirror but I only paid $100 for it of egay. I am trying to find one for cheaper than $300 with no luck

Hmm.... Does the mirror still fold? If it's just the plastic cover that's cracked you can buy the plasic shell. Which motor is missing. Does it adjust up/down, left/right?
You can sell the 04-06 mirror on eBay for the same money you bought it with no loss.
Usually right side mirrors are much more expensive then left, I wonder why? But $300 is a little too much, $250 would be an acceptable price.

Well I just found a cover for $10. I am not sure which motor was missing. I didn't pay much attention to it since I thought I had one to replace it and I am currently out of town. I was wondering if I can just swap the guts (electrics)from the new on into the old one. The plug is the same but what about the rest.
Thanks for your help

When you have time, do some investigative job. Take off the right panel and connect the old/broken mirror, run in though it's paces - fold, adjust up/down and left/right. If it works fine just get the shell and swap the innards. If at least one of the functions of a broken mirror doesn't work, it will be too much hassle (IMHO) to fix and I'd be looking for a new one.
You're very welcome

Update: I was able to take the 04 mirror pod and put it on the 02 base and it works perfectly. I bought a shell for no reason but I am going to paint it to match the 04 base and resell it
