hood struts/support lifts for '03 LS430
Need to replace the hood struts but I'm having a problem finding after market struts that won't cost as much as Lexus struts. Any suggestions?

I bought a set from
they had two choices. Seems like it was between $25-$30 apiece. good comparison anyway.

As a side note. I asked that they be shipped express Fedex (3 day) and when I checked Fedex it looked like they would be received Friday instead of Thursday (I was leaving town on Friday). I emailed their customer service and within 30 minutes I had a response advising that Fedex most often delivered before the projected date. Anyway, I had several other emails with Toni Fishman and their customer support (which in this day and age is horrible, even in person) is top notch and the best I have interacted with on the Internet. Appears this company has the "right" attitude and will definitely get my return business.

about as easy as it gets
the old ones snap out and the new one's snap in to ball joints at both ends. Nothing electrical involved.
One thing I also recall is you need to gently but firmly force the trunk up and down (or carefully open and shut the trunk a few times) to get the hydraulics functioning properly.
Mine were pretty stiff the first few times, making me wonder if i was doing something wrong. I wasn't.
Once that is done, they worked perfectly. Still do.

hood struts
I got mine for my 02 430 from E-BAY . Strongarm I think. Cost $37 each. Work perfectly. I would recommend getting ones that have the ball separated from the arm. Then install the bottom first. Next mount the ball ends and just snap into place. 15 minute job and they work perfectly. Excercise the hood up and down a few times to get them working proprly. Be careful and dont bend your hood.
Good Luck!

Just ordered Trunk Struts made by StrongArm part # 6415 @ $44.16 delivered for the pair.
Will see how it goes!
Trunk & Hood have both been discussed here so a tad confusing.
#6236 seems to be correct Strut for the 430 Hood.
