Default Parking Brake engages by itself

I have a problem with my parking brake. It engages by itself. For no reason I get parking brake warning light on and when I pull by parking brake release the light goes off. I don't think the brake pedal engages hard or anything, and it seems the pakring brake pedal maybe collapses a little and initiaite parking brake warning.

Any help would be apreciated.

I sometimes bump the parking brake pedal when entering the car, causing the light to turn on. Do you hear the pedal retract at all when you pull the parking brake release?

I used to have the same problem as caddyowner. The parking brake is in a funny spot and if not careful will press the brake when entering the car.

I too have put up with this for 10+ years. I never know if it's me bumping the parking brake or something else. Like others do I just pull the release and go about my business.

I don't know about y'all, but I always use my parking brakes. It's just one of those habits.

I have had this happen sporadically maybe once every other month for last years. I just assumed it was me just barely bumping the parking brake , but maybe its something else. my car only has 38k miles. Like others do I just pull the release and the light goes off.

Me too. Maybe I'll try a bungee cord on the pedal to see if it quits.

My car has only 37k miles and I do play close attention to make sure I don't bump that foot pedal. I am thinking that vibraton while driving cause it to shift down the pedal.

Looking from below it seems that there is a support shock which springs back the pedal. . I had to replace both hood and trunk support shocks. I am thinking shock there may have loss gases as well and doesn't spring back the pedal hard enough.

Thoughts?

I'm new to Lexus. I bought my 04 UL in mid-December. I've had this happen some 10 times since purchasing. I took the car to the Lexus Dealer for this and a couple other issues. They told me that I'm bumping the pedal. However, I'm very careful to not touch it. I could understand a couple of accidental bumps, but not as many bumps that I've encountered.

As others mentioned, not a big deal to pull the lever, just more of a pain.

My LS430 does the same thing every now and then. I think the issue is me unknowingly pressing it, as I get into the car. I simply release it and the light goes off.

I had 20+ cars in my life and I never had a problem hitting parking break pedal. Looks like many of us have that problem. I assume it is a Lexus issue. My engages much more often; maybe once every couple days.

Time to e-mail sewell how much a replacement shock for the parking brake pedal is.

if you pull the release and the light goes off.. then you're inadvertantly bumping the pedal as you enter the car. It seems the very first click on the pedal takes very little effort. I was pumping the thing when entering the vehicle in beginning too and wondering why the light would come on. Then when I realized it, I started to enter the car with a wider margin for not pumping the pedal. I still bump it once in a while.

I've had this happen about 3-4 times in the past 2 years.
