Fob question (2004) ...
Keyfob not allowing me to unlock doors by pulling handle. Can't start the ignition unless I stick the key in the slot either..... Any thoughts? I think I need to get it re-programmed at the dealership but thought I would bounce this off all of you.... I just took delivery and this is how I got it....
Thanks.....
Thanks.....

Make sure SmartAccess is turned on under the dash, above the driver's right foot / knee. Two buttons: SmartAccess disable (on/off) and TPMS reset (momentary contact) & one **** for exterior beep volume control.

Are you using the valet key? When I bought my car, they gave me the valet key and I couldn't unlock doors by touching, can't open trunk with the button, and couldn't start it unless I put the key inside the slot.
After they got me a new key and programmed it, everything is working correctly.
I think the way to tell if it's a valet key or not is if the key fob doesn't have a trunk release button, it's a valet key. The key with a trunk release is the regular key.
Hope this helps!

ok...Caddy nailed the first part... Once I pressed the smart access button I was golden. Now I need to figure out why I cannot turn the ignition without having the fob in the slot.... ideas?

I believe that the battery is only used to power the "wireless remote control" transmitter (Lexus' name for the door & trunk lock/unlock buttons).
The SmartAccess ignition uses a passive chip (like RFID) and does not require power.
It should work even without a battery installed in the key.
My guess is that the key needs to be "programmed" - actually the car needs to be programmed to recognize it.
