Audio reset button on steering wheel reseting on its own

Intermittently lossing steering wheel controls, horn, and audio button functionality
Dear all,
The audio preset button on the steering wheel of my 06 LS seems to be sporadically engaging on its own. The symptoms are the typical beeping sound, just as if I were to press it myself and it also stays pressed so that I am unable to use the horn, climate and audio buttons next to the nav screen. If I turn the steering wheel in any direction all symptoms go away, they come back when the wheel is straight. These may go away within seconds or minutes and come back at no particular interval or for any apparent reason.
