Default please help: car shakes bad going into reverse

was out house hunting this morning. pulled into a driveway to turn around and car started to shake hard while in reverse. No problem in drive. Did it again to check to see if I was crazy. Shook some more rolling in reverse. Can't get it to repeat same problem now.

Any Ideas?

John

Mine has always had that problem too, idling in reverse it's very jerky, don't know why either. '02 127k miles

My guess is a bad transmission mount. Sometimes they'll only show symptoms under certain load, at certain angles, etc.

A worn tranny mount also will also show up as a vibration in the gear selector. Put it in gear and observe if it vibrates. This is also a good time to inspect the engine mounts. Though not always, these link together as wear indicators so replacing the engine and tranny mounts fixes much of the driveline issues. The only remaining one be would be the carrier bushings.

Welcome to the higher miles crowd.

Yeah and unfortunately replacing one mount often emphasizes how worn the other mounts are...

came from a mini cooper s before the ls430. So if the car is in the shop to just replace old parts I can live with that. I blew two turbos, oil sending unit, water pump, thermostat, vanos seleniod all before 60k miles.

I had replaced my transmission mount and it didn't help. The old mount was in pretty good condition anyways.
