Default Driving cruise control without cruise control

Yes, the title is correct. You are not reading it wrong.

Today I noticed something very funny: when I am driving at 34 to 50mph, I can just let the throttle go but the speed won't slow down. It's like driving with cruise control on. As if the car won't slow down once in a particular gear, instead of gearing down. Maybe it's a malfunction?

But I don't want this to be fixed, because guess what?

The mpg was insane!! I was driving 4litre/100km, that's like 59mpg!!! But when I set the cruise control at the SAME speed, the mpg went down to 32mpg.

That's weird isn't it? Or...is Lexus just genious?

Someone else with the same experience?

Mine has a tendency to coast quite far as well. I assumed it was because it was a heavy car with momentum.

Or it's malfunction and not safe to drive like that at all. I'd get it check out since it's definitely not normal. Although of course you can always slam on the brake but at the same time it shouldn't be that way.

The vehicle is coasting, that's normal. Usually the real-time mpg readout will say 100mpg when coasting.

Well, today I tried it again but it didn't have the same effect. When I depress the throttle it will slow down (very slowly), so it was indeed coasting. The fuel usage was reading 0,0 litre/100km (100mpg). But I do feel it coast for a while, it's a tank after all

Maybe the pedal got stucked and didn't depress completely??

Even though this is completey unsafe, I kinda like the side effect of it. I notice pretty quick if a vehicle doesn't slow down (quick enough) and will use the brake any way.

I will try again later.

Just tested it briefly for a short distance. I think it's coasting. The readout was 3.6 litre/100km, even coasting. I think it needs some time to calculate the realtime mpg. If I depress the gas on the highway I'll get 0,0 litre/100km quicker.

I did notice it slow down v-e-r-y slowly but it depends on the situation. Sometimes you can see it slow down with a naked eye but sometimes you'll have to watch it very closely, It's like the tank doesn't want to stop and cruise forever lol
