Default window tint

We went to a highly recommended window tint installer this morning.
He told us he has to do a special trim to work with the Lexus because they have such tight fitting windows. The top edge of the tint tries to get scraped as the window goes into the top.
He explained he trims the tint so the top 1/4 inch is not tinted so it won't scrape it as it closes.
He held a piece of the tint over our dash which gets very hot and we could feel the difference.
He also explained with the tint the AC will have an easier time controlling the cooling inside.
Our dash and door panels get so hot you barely can put your hands on them.
Our appointment is next week so we will report back after retrieving our car.
The tint he recommended and we agreed is almost clear so we will see how it works out.

I just had Llumar tint film put on my Lexus LS430. This same shop has tinted cars for me since the early nineties. There was no mention of any special trim work and there is no 1/4" gap at the top either. They didn't have to remove any panels or trim either. Total= $148 plus tax.
They used the darkest tint allowed by law on the front windows and a darker tint on tne rear windows, but not the darkest available.

There are so many scam tint places. I don't know if they just figure LS drivers are rich so whack them with fancy procedures. mine was done all around with no issues and no removal of any trims.

He doesn't have to remove trim from the car, he removes a 1/4 piece of the tint at the top because he said the windows on the Lexus seal very tight and over time will cause the tint to start to come off at the top of the window.
I got his number from the Lexus dealer and then checked his customers ratings and remarks.

He said it is the tight fit of the windows and the California heat.
I don't know so we will see how it comes out.

This is true with certain type of cars, when the windows are up u won't be able to tell. Most of the time cars with no window frame are tinted that way.

How much total would it be? I was going to get 20% tint all the way around but when the guy came he said he did not have enough time. He taught it was going to be less then a 2 hour job. BUT he said that the back rear window will take him about 2 hours to do because of the defroster on the back window. the price he quoted me was $300 but he then said $400 because of the back glass.

I have had tint on mines for 4yrs and when I roll my windows up it strains a little just before sealing tight. It might be a good thing for the window motor to cut it short.

He said $350 and is doing the rear window, the 4 side windows and the front window.
He also said 3 or 4 hours for the total project.
We watched him work on another car and most of his time is spent preparing the window.
Cleaning very carefully. Applying the tint material went pretty fast and smooth.
He allows you to see what and how he works and can converse with you as he works.

Yes, the tint is almost clear so it won't affect our vision. Our dash gets so hot from the sun even when we use a metallic folding protector that we can't keep a hand on it.
We take off the folding protector and put it in the back seat and start driving. Very fast the dash is too hot to keep a hand on it when we are driving towards the sun.
