Default Blown subwoofer: replace it with OEM or aftermarket

So today I am "victim" of this infamous blown subwoofer
Actually, I don't know what a blown subwoofer should sound like but it sounds like loose paper.

I haven't really tested the bass but it's already blown... So I guess the subwoofer is really weak. (I thought ML was a quality brand...)

Anyway, I know some of you just replace it with an OEM or aftermarket woofer. Luckily an used sub isn't that expensive but I wonder if it's any good/wise/useful to replace it with OEM in the first place, since they are weak.

I am curious what you think of this matter: replace it with OEM or aftermarket?

Just a side note, I am not after a pro setup or anything. I am fine the ML installation.

I would never put the OEM back in unless my car was going to be garaged all day- It is fairly involved to replace so why use the same junk that failed. I know there is a thread here that mentions aftermarkets people had success with.

Most of the time it only requires refoaming which can save you hundreds. You can test it before reassembly. There are numerous threads about refoaming. If the temporary glue fix works for any amount of time, refoaming is sure to fix the problem. The cones are usually ok unless torn. Personally,, I would only go with OEM as the amp is quite expensive in case you run into compatability issues with aftermarket(not to mention any drilling and modifications to the rear deck). Good luck!
