Default No master key, no spare key - what to do?

Guys,

01 LS430 without a key. What are my options? Can dealer cut a new one from VIN? Anyone know the cost? Ideas/suggestions?

Bought the car this way, so I understand the "always have a spare key" but it doesn't apply in this particular instance

Thanks,

The dealer can cut a key one based on VIN youll have to buy a master and get the ECU reseeded. I had it done on my 05... Im not 100% you can do it on a 01 with out replacing the ECU but id suspect you can

Thank you for your response. By chance do you recall the cost for having this done?

Regards,
Jonny

Obviously, you will need to provide proof of ownership (title or registration) and valid matching ID to get it done, but it can be done.

I was charged 90 bucks for the new smart ket 142 bucks for the key. The cutter/programmer is like $20G's for the 04 key so they had it next day aired in for 12 bcuks from Lexus.

In that past that was the case I know on the 99 GS they claimed that. At some point they changed that.

Just call Sewell and explain your problem. I'm sure they will tell you what you have to do.

dealer can cut a key with a vin, just bring some sort proof of ownership, like the title, or insurance card with your name and the vin number on it just in case.

Default no keys for SC430

Hi, I have no keys for my 2002 SC430. Purchased the car with only one master key. And that key was stolen along with my coat.

I called the Lexus dealership and was quoted $1600.
$800 for a new computer
$500 for 2 new keys
$300 for labor/tax

He said this was the only way to get keys for my car.

Please tell me there is another way
Thanks!

They are robbing you. Call another dealership. You might even want to try calling toyota

Anyone driving the car with one key only is playing Russian roulette. When I purchased the car I had only one key with remote. Ordered a blank non-remote blank key from ebay for $10 (2 for $20). Got it cut at a local locksmith for $20. Programmed the chip per instructions. So I have one non-remote key that can open the doors and start the car. I also took the remote key blade picture, and had a remote key (without the remote guts) cut by sending the picture and $20 by an ebay outfit, just in case my remote key shell disintegrates over time, so I can transfer the remote guts into the new remote key-shell with blade cut to open the doors.

I believe these days you can get a complete remote key with blade cut, if you send the blade picture for about $50, which is a pretty cheap insurance.

The VIN allows Lexus dealers to cut a key without a picture of an original. Also, if you have the small silver-colored metal tag with special number embossed on it, that is also the code for cutting the metal key. But, you have a bigger problem with no master key which I understand is essential to gaining access to the engine immobilizer ECU to create another key that will start the engine.
