If you had a choice, and reliability wasn't an issue.. which one would you choose?
LS430 no nav/modern luxury
(for looks/exterior/interior)
Let's just say you got to choose either for free.

So you're saying if we live in fantasy land where no hing broke and life was dandy... then CL would be out as exterior kills it for me. In fantasylqnd where things don't break I would give edge yo s500 for handling

S500, but if talking about reliability and comfort the lexus everytime.
I like the looks of the mercedes S class, this was the only reason why I would chose one over the first gen ls430.
if it were a 2004 LS, then I would go with this.

CL55 hands down for me. Supercharged V8, 0-60 in 4.3...would be a fun ride!
But of course as a coupe fills a very different need than a big four door luxury cruiser.
Back to reality...an old Benz like that is expensive to keep running and stuff breaks all the time. I owned a 98 CL600 and even with a full coverage extended warranty I got tired of the car being in the shop all the time. The drivetrain was solid but everything else in the car was problematic.
So explains why I now own an LS! ; )

The CL for sure...I have always wanted one as I was growing up.
Now that they are old enough to afford lol, I have found out why the depreciate so much. They are very unreliable and they have a lot of suspension problems.
Example, the struts are hardlined with power steering into the rack and pump. If one of your struts starts to leak fluid, you can blow all the other components, and that becomes EXPENSIVE.
Also, they do not have aftermarket suspension...you can't run a full coilover or air suspension setup to my knowledge, because there is no way to bypass the factory stuff. I really wanted one, but the research I did made me figure out that I would never be able to get it to sit the way I wanted.
LS430 > S class though
