Default Ls 430 vs ls460

I have a 2002 LS430. Have my eye on a 2007 LS 460. Has anyone owned a 430 then a 460 and can tell me which one you liked best? All replies greatly appreciated.

I think its going to be hard to beat the 430.

Thanks,
Harry

I haven't owned an LS460, but I can tell you that I prefer the classic styling of the LS430 with its lower beltline, more open greenhouse with better visibility. We came out of a mall yesterday to find an elderly couple looking at our car and remarking about its beauty.
The LS460 is a beautiful car, but from a distance can be confused with an ES350, a Buick LaCrosse, and several other current models. I'm wondering what the next styling craze will bring, as the current style can't last forever. The Lexus spindle grille is okay, but can hardly be called beautiful.
The biggest difference in your LS430 and an LS460 is horsepower.
I will eventually move from our 2002 LS430 to an LS460, but am in no hurry. The 460 just can't be that much better. It's surely not as pretty.

I think the ls460 is an amazing car in many ways. I haven't researched the ls460 in detail but one area that would concern me about ls460 ownership is significantly higher costs of all maintenance including basic routine stuff. Things like tires, brakes, even oil changes can be more complex and costly.

Many years from now I will probably be in the same boat and would like to get an LS460 to replace my LS430. In your case, I would have some concerns about getting the first model year of the 4th generation LS as wih most manufacturers there may or may notbe issues with this model. I prefer to get at least the 2nd model year (2008) just in case they had issues with the first model that they subsequently fixed with succeeding models.

Just my .02 cents.

There are several people here, including moderators, who have the LS 460 from the 430. Check the 460 forum. I myself will skip this generation because I plan on driving my 430 to the ground so I will probably get the next generation LS at some point if it's good. The spindle grille is too much "stuff" on the LS, takes away from it's luxurious nature.

I haven't driven one yet, but plan on replacing mine with a 460 in the next few years...

It's mainly for aesthetics. The outside and inside are a leap ahead, but i hear they are not as reliable. Ill do more research when it's time to make a decision.

Smile The LS460 - My experience

I drove the 2007 LS460L (long) Lexus and I loved it. I just traded it, after 3 1/2 years, for a 2010 LS460. It is just as nice and the maintenance is no higher than it was for the 2007. I keep the oil changed, tires rotated, etc. I have had to replace a couple of tires, but other than that, I've had no problems with it. Because the backup camera compensates for the blindspots, I would recommend it. I love it--it's so beautiful and dependable.

Default Ls430 VS LS460

Thanks for all the replies. I was looking at the carfax and noticed that in its earlier life it was listed or registered as a commercial vehicle. What is that and should it be a concern to me??

Thanks again,
Harry

It was probably just a lease car or company car some high-end professional had his office buy for him.

It's a shame that the suspension wore out so soon, the poor thing has bottomed out.

The suspension on this car hasn't worn out, It's on air bag's so he can raise the car back up in seconds.

yep the airbags on the 460s have been known to go out really fast....shame. Probably have to drive that thing around at no more than 25mph. Except for the goofy giant wheels its not too bad looking.

I've went from 04 ls430 to 07 ls460L and I love everything about the 460. Don't get me wrong the 430 is a fine piece of machinery, I still have 02 ls430 also and plan on do a few mods and give it to my 16yr old. Believe it or not the brakes on the 460 are very easy to change, easier than the 430. The only bolts or nuts you need to take off are the ones one your wheels. I said that cause some one mention about changing brakes and the maintenance on the 460. If you have any other questions, feel free to ask or pm me.
