Window Tint Advice
After some advice regarding a tint issue I have got on my vehicle, about 6 weeks ago I had a company tint my car. They did a terrible job and in the end I had them detint the car and give me a refund, Shortly there after I got another reputable company in bristol to retint the windows. The company that retinted the windows were aware that the car had been tinted before and I had problems with the previous company and assured me that they would do a top job.
After having the windows tinted I was told I would have to go back for them to try and get the tint to sit abit flatter against the lines, because on my car they are raised alot ( common lexus thing ) I got this done and the owner mentioned there were a couple of bits around the edges of the dot matrix they couldn't get out. Now initially I wasn't too bothered about this but having looked a few days later I noticed there is a scratch in the film and some dirt etc. I phoned the tinter and he said that it was on a scale system or some crap the job that was done due to the car having been tinted before this would of possibly caused contamination issues etc, he's initially proposed over the phone to redo the tint but stated that if they remove the tint and the lines are damaged he's not going to be held accountable.
He also said something about the car not being a new car can cause problems or some crap, but the funny thing was he was happy to take on the job and was quite firm on stating they wouldn't have any problems before they did the tint.
What are people's views on this?
The previous tinters even tho they were crap, they managed to get the tint out ok with no issues to the heating lines.
Do I get him to retint the car and be forced to accept his crap about not being accountable for issues to the heating lines.
Or do I get a new rear screen put in with them tinting it before installation by national windscreens. I don't want to do this as it's going to cost me £££ to go down this route.
Or Do I live with it, and let it probably bug me.
Any advice welcome.

Defroster lines are tricky especially if there has been tint and the adhesive has not thoroughly been cleaned off. In all the years I've had tint, none were 100% perfect, most are 95-97%. They get close but invariably there is some tiny spec-scratch that is present. If these are on visible areas, then yes, have it redone because you'll see it.
I have dust on a corner of the rear window and I have a scratch on the inside glass. The installer noted the scratch and said it would be visible. No biggie to me. The lighter the shading, the less obvious these imperfections show.

Do not ecept that. I had mine done about 2 weeks ago with them stripping the original tint on my rear window and they did a good job. Stripping it was costly but they did a good job and it was just a simple 3m film

Cheers for the replies guys, what does my head in, in these situations is that i the customer come across as a picky git to companies like this.
I've noticed on tintdude.com that alot of the installers on that site follow the same mantle " if i do a bad job then im not accountable for damage to the glass when removing the tint. How can they even think this is acceptable? If they **** something up do they expect the customer to live with it because they might damage the defroster lines when removing the tint for example.
I know when i see the tinter tomorrow he will try and say thats the best they could do, but prior to doing the job he was sure they would do a perfect job. It sounded like he was jumping for joy when i mentioned about having new glass put in the back as it makes it real easy for them to tint. But im 150$ down getting the glass replaced if i do this. I might do this if the tinter agrees to tint the front glass for free but i know he wont. I just dont need the hassle!
Sorry for the rant lol

Unless its really evident or its causing noticeable light halos or reflections in your line of sight while night driving I would leave it alone for 2-3 weeks. I had mine done last summer and the back window had to be redone because film wasn't tight enough on heater lines. Second attempt was way better but still not perfect but visually is was fine for night driving. It bothered me that it was not perfect under close inspection since I am seriously OCD but after a couple of weeks I never noticed it.
You may want to wait until is warm outside to redo the back window. The heat and sun help dry out and tighten the film in a few days after its done.
I had mine done at Lexus - they were same cost as competitors in my area and if they hosed anything up - I knew they would be good for fixing it. I am in DFW area so 75% of new and out of state used cars here are tinted by the dealer at purchase time so all the dealers do tint. .

It's been nearly a month since this has been installed, I went back 2 weeks later to get them to lower the lines down more and they did, the issue is it's still not right and i can see specks or dirt within the film if looking at the screen. It's annoying more than anything and I wouldn't of bothered getting it redone by this firm if it wasn't for the fact that the owner was quite adament that they could and would do a proper job.
I know tomorrow when I visit them that he will flat out refuse to detint the car unless I take responsibility if anything arises from doing this. I have had some contact with free legal consumer advice people here in the UK today and they have informed me that the merchant can't be expected to not put things right before the job being done without taking responsibility himself and that I myself should not be in anyway out of pocket for this work being carried out.
Or as they asked me to write down the following if I have to write to this merchant if things aren't resolved tomorrow.
"The supply of goods and services act 1979 states that goods and services should be carried out with reasonable care and skill, goods should be free from faults and as described lasting a reasonable time.
I am entitled to a repair or refund and in this case any consequeiential losses to be recovered from yourself as repairs should be done without any significant inconvenience to myself.
The breach of contract occured after your poor workmanship and this must be corrected at no cost to myself.
In order to resolve the dispute I would like you to replace the rear window tint and if need be replace or cover the cost of the rear windscreen if any damage occurs when carrying out the repairs."
