Default Update on "little clunking noise"....

Hi All,
It turned out that it is more serious than just a brake related hardware on the rear driver side wheel. When the wheel is taken off and car on a jack, whenever the gear is shifted from P into D or R (or R to D), the arm (looks like drive axle with rubber boots on both end) rotates and it creates metal to metal sound from the wheel end (wasnt able to pinpoint where exactly the contact area of the source). There seems to be too much play on the arm itself. The car drives perfectly once gear is engaged without any unusual sound at all. Anyone with any ideas or suggestion?? This seems like a bit more than I can tackle on my own. Could anyone recommend a reputable mechanic in Central CA area (East Bay or Tracy, Modesto) for this issue?? I hate to take it to the Dealer.

Thank you.
