Default Replacing rear CV axle --- DIY possible????

Hi all,
I just want to run this by those know much more than I do. There is a metal to metal contact noise issue on my car (2005 LS430, 26k miles) on rear driver side, every time trans is shifted from P to R to D to R, without any other sound or symptoms while once vehicle is running). I might be wrong but I am suspecting (and hoping) it is the rear CV axle. To make the long story short, do you think replacing the axle falls into DIY catagory???? My level of automotive skill is being able to replace a timing belt, water pump, brakes, rotor, wheel bearing and others. I know I cannot touch engine / trans mod or rebuilding.

Any input is well appreciated.

Thanks.
