My experience in washing filters is not good (hand held vacuums with small filters for instance). Generally, washing causes the small fibers to "bunch" together and are hard when dried. I think that creates large void areas and prevents the filter to performing very well. Just isn't worth it for the cost of a new filter(s). Just my opinion. Who would every try to wash an engine filter?
$ 22 for a new filter is maybe the least expensive replacement part you can buy for an LS

I washed my 2 filters with the same detergent I use when I hand wash a $ 300 cashmere sweater. The sweaters dry soft as the day they were bought and the filters looked fine also,. The trick is to not use too much detergent and to rinse them well after washing to make sure all the detergent is removed.

It's so easy a cave man can do it. You really can't get pictures because the most difficult thing about the process is getting enough room or your had to contort into the area. Raise the seats as high as possible and feel around for the flat plastic snorkel and you will feel the rectangular filters with the two tabs holding them attached. Unfasten them, and clean the old ones or replace with new ones. End of story.

People, people, people, drag out your owners manual and get mildly acquainted with it, at least just thumb through it so you are aware of what's in it. Asking people to spoon feed someone for bare essentials is reducing this forum to an unacceptable level!
