Default Considering an 04 UL. Advice

I'm considering getting a 2004 LS430 with the UL package.

It is a one owner with timing belt service and full service records.
104k miles.

Dealer is asking $21,9
What do you think a fair purchase price would be? Between 18 - 19?

Also, I noticed others mention a transmission tsb on 04 models? What was this and how do you check to see if it was done? Anything else to particularly pay attention to?

Look 10 threads down or so "is this a good deal" in Augusta an 06 ultra babied $19,300 with 65k miles. For 18-19 this one is a pretty good deal.

"Kindness is the language the deaf can hear and the blind can see" Spectacular motto! Real similar to whatsoever you do to the least of my brothers you do onto me. I was dowt to the Mississippi the otherer day beautiful country. Have to read some MT again.

If it's cpo and or comes with a 3 k warrantee from the dealer your covered. Just want to see O/C every 5 k a tranny and other fluid flush would be nice but the pumps and such are overbuilt. Gey it checked by a private body shop for painted panels. Otherwise plenty of back reading on concerns with the 430, but very few issues compared to the older bro the 460 and both solid cars

The TSB was on early production 04's any dealer should have a record or go on line but dealer is more accurate.

Show the guy the 06 on craigs offer 18

There are two relevant items:
1. Campaign 04V317000: 2004 LS430s manufactured before Jan 15, 2004
This was a safety recall and the dealer would replace the transmission.
An internal part could break rendering the parking lock system inoperative.
2. TSIB TC006-04: All 2004 LS430s and 2005 LS430s up to S/N 005700
This TSIB had the dealer replace the ECM (PCM) to enhance low speed shifting
An "Authorized Modification Label" should be on the far left side as you look at it (the passenger side) under the hood if the mod was done.

Thanks guys. I'm working on getting all the relevant info right now. That transmission campaign is a big one. The car is beautiful but is 400 miles away. I don't mind driving to get it.

As far as your experience goes, do you think the dealer will come anywhere close to NADA on a trade-in? Black book is such a rip off. My 99 is valued around $9,000 trade-in and $12,5 retail.

Here is a sneak peak of what I am looking at. I love the color of the exterior and interior. Wish me luck on a good deal and completed campaign work.

My 04 UL is an early model (Dec 2003) and the transmission was changed. There is no Authorized Modification Label under the hood for this. However, the Lexus service showed it to have been done which I purchased it as a CPO in 2007 with 21,000 miles. It does have an Authorized Modification Label for the TSIB TC006-04 under the hood.

My guess would be that there are no early model 04 LS430 that did not get the transmission replaced. You would have had to been a complete fool not to have that done as it was issued when those cars were nearly new!

But, wouldn't hurt to check with Lexus to give you peace of mind.

It did not dawn on me to enter the vin into my Lexus account and pull up the info myself until just now. 19 pages of service history.

Good news is transmission was done at 6600 miles. ECU was reprogrammed at 20K. I did not see anything about replacing the ECM. I wonder if this reprogramming was the same thing.

Otherwise, it is mostly inspections and a few things here and there. There were about 4 brake jobs in 104 miles. Kind of surprising. Are the 430's harder on the brakes compared to the 400's? Maybe the owner was a bit hard on the brakes. Mine had it's first brake job at 78K miles.

Brakes are so dependant on highway or city driving. If you drive 90% hw, you can go 90k before a change, but 90% traffic city and you'd be lucky to go 20k. I go about 60hw/40local and I've been going about 45k between changes.

NADA and tradin? ask to have them look up the latest auction prices at mannhein and other for the most accurate pricing on trades.

16k at the most ... I got a 04 with 61k miles on it for 19.5... 21 is way too much

Beautiful saddle interior. I'd offer $19k and work up, but if $21k is it, then paying that isn't bad for a low 100k vehicle with timing.belt already done.

NADA clean retail is 18,950 without the UL package. The car does have nav and Levison audio system. I agree that 21,9 is too much but it is typical of a dealer to ask at least a grand more then they expect.

Good to see that their still holding great value. I bought mine back in 2009 with 70k miles for $23K. I think $18K would be a fair offer. I have the same ext color (briarwood pearl), never seen saddle interior with it before.

That seems pretty expensive to me. I just got an 03 with 110K, new tires, chrome wheels, nav, mark levinson. Pretty solid car, no major scratches etc for 11500. Mine is the dark pine metallic green with tan interior. I do love saddle leather though.
