Exhaust tips LS430 - leather detailed cupholder
gang,
just wanted to share a couple small modifications that I made this weekend.
Am I the only one who thinks the factory exhaust tips on the 430's look a little scrawny? I have always looked at the openings in the rear bumper and felt like they needed to be filled out with a larger chrome tip. Now, on the flip side I didn't want to overload them with big' ole grapefruit shooters either.........so, I set out to locate tips that were similar in shape but larger to fill out the holes. I scoured the internet and paid very close attention to other cars looking for similar shaped tips. After a week or so of paying closer attention I zeroed in on two cars that fit the need and they were:
2012-13 Maximas
2008-2013 Accords
I stopped by the Nissan parts counter at the dealer near my home and found out that the tips that are on the Maxima are actually welded to the muffler according to the guy running the counter. So, Maxima was checked off the list.
Next, I went down to the Honda dealer and found the Accord tips were available at the price of about 60.00 each. Seemed a little steep to me so I jumped back on eBay and found several places were you could purchase the accord tips for anywhere from 60 to 100 bucks for a pair. Some were reconditioned but I really didn't care. Ended up finding some made in China but looked identical to the Honda parts. They were about 60 bucks for the pair and shipped outta California.
Anyway, now that I had them I set out to install them. It wasn't as simple as sliding them on because the pipe diameter for the stock outlet on the mufflers is only 2 inches. So, off to Autozone to find a 21/4 section of pipe to slide inside the new tip and over the muffler section. I did have to cut the downward sloped section on the pipe coming out of the muffler but an angle grinder took care of that in short order.
Slid everything together and here is what ya get......
Then, another small detail I added to the car was a leather surface in the center cup holders up front. Simply made a pattern and cut out a section to match and glued it down....could have done a little better on the pattern but decent for now. Next time around it will look better.
