The Ellis430 is the best car I have ever owned
I currently have a 2004 LS430 with ultra lux pkg, every option, obsessively well maintained. I have 131k miles. I love it. I told myself I would drive this car into the ground as it is by far the most luxurious car I've ever driven. However, a good friend is willing to sell me his 07 460 which is hard to pass up.
Question: what do other 2007 LS460 owners think of their car (comfort, convenience, reliability, etc) and is anyone interested in an exceptional 2004 LS430?

I am no expert, but I think that the '07s had a serious recall involving the valve springs.
If I remember correctly, a knowledgable person said that even after the repair, he would not buy an '07.
You might try the LS460 forum for this topic.

Beautiful car!
I like the classic look of the 430.
The 460 is sleeker, but it kind of blends in with all of the surrounding cars.
Like the mid size Jaguar.
You could put any auto makers badge on it and it would look okay. Nothing too distinctive about it.

The 460 will be significantly more expensive to maintain and they are not as reliable. Of course, they are more modern and have newer features. As cars are absolutely the worst investment one makes in their lifetime it is a smarter decision to maintain a perfectly great automobile vs buying a less reliable one. Keep the car and put your money in a Roth IRA or 401k.

Thanks for the replies. You all have touched on the issues I am concerned about. I love my 430. I really think its probably the best car on the road. And I have taken amazing care of mine. But its getting a bit older. I dont expect any problems but i like driving cars with fewer miles. The driver (pun intended) of upgrading is that I know the 460, meaning I know it's maintenance history, it's owner and how it's been driven. Further, it has every feature, option, color, etc I want and nothing extra....Hard t find. If it weren't for this 460 specifically I wouldn't be looking.

I love my 430 and will also dri ve to the ground. I will NOT buy a '07-'12 460 as replacement and my opinions on the '13+ refresh is still open. I just don't like the big Camry look of the 460. If you live the 430, it's a classic beauty

It sounds like you have every reason and justification to trade up so do it. The 430 is sweet and the 460and 430 are still the most reliable cars in its class. Some 460's have issues, but even with the springs and wind noise issues they are ironed out by recalls. I it is easy to get caught up a bit on the LS, and it is a sweet car, but alot of newer cars and model year changes around 07-08 and up are nice also. Good luck enjoy!

This part of the forum and this group of regular contributors is super biased on the LS430. And for good reason, the LS430 may be the finest factory built car ever built in terms of overall balanced performance, luxury and reliability. It is clearly destined to be a classic and a car that engenders a fierce loyalty.
The LS460 is also a great car, certainly way more powerful, worse mpg, more options but also more complexity, also some mechanical issues in earlier models, and lots of folks love them.
In the end, assuming your budget allows either car with no pain, you should go with whatever car is going to make you happiest and most excited to drive it.
For me I love the classic looks and elegance of my LS430. And I love the fact that is is 100% bulletproof reliable and cost me almost nothing to run. In the meantime I bank serious $$$ every month instead of driving the latest new car and that is what makes me happiest. JMHO - YMMV - yada, yada

All forums will be biased towards the cars on that forum so take any comments on either extremes with grain of salt. The LS however is a very good car by any standard. Is it perfect? No, but it's a great cruiser.

I'm with AlexusAnja... great quality, reliability and performance in the top of the line Luxury vehicle... no payments and little to no repairs. And very car needs maintenance. I don't mind a few miles on the car as I know it's still as solid as the day it was first purchased... and to think... I paid ~$12k or less for a vehicle that someone else paid ~$60k for?!?... That to me... is incredible value..and when you find them well maintained and taken care of, like most of these owners do... you've got one heck of a great car that looks practically brand new. I'm biased...I'll stay with the LS400 and the 430...
