I just did the modules and replaced the whole housing. Very bright indeed. Maybe too brightness the reflection off the bumper almost looks like the lights are coming from the bumper! But I'm not taking my trunk apart again... It's more work than just replacing the bulbs.
This tool by Lisle is what I use. It is, or at least mine was, made in USA. It also has the movable plastic ball to protect body panels and move the pivot point.

I just bought a LS430 this past Saturday and I'm trying to replace the Rear license trunk lights. I removed the side two pieces of the trunk liner but I can't get any of the plastic fasteners off. How do you do it without breaking them?
They just pop out, slid a screw driver under them, they push back in thumb push
