'02 140k miles, developed this issue yesterday, when the starter is engaged with the ignition there's a click and then a delay before it starts to crank the motor, and it stumbles to fire up. The battery is a Toyota battery and is less than two years old, I cleaned the terminals and cable ends and the problem persists. Could it be the contacts and plunger? Here's a video with four attempts at starting the car, the fourth attempt is the worst. Notice I do not turn the key back to the run position until after the motor fires up.

Starter solenoid. Engine sounds fine. No check engine light. Sounds like you need a starter. Get Denso. Engine stumbled because you were engaging the starter when she was running on that 4th start.
