Default Interior rattle from corner of passenger dash

I have circled in the attached picture the location where I here an annoying rattle especially when cold and going over some "bumps" in the road. You can push down on the dash and it will stop. The dash will go down slightly so something is lose in there.

Any ideas as to what it could be? I know of no way to access what's there from underneath.

I hate to wedge something between dash and windshield to silence it but what does one do?

I am having the same issue. And you know, the real cause behind all this misery is the cold weather. That's why we just started to hear these annoying noises.

I temporarily stuffed 2 pieces of padding there, and you can't see a thing. I don't see any permanent fix for it. Except maybe some silicon that has to be neatly done and installed.

If you really want to find the bottom of it, I think you can remove the whole dash, pad this area and you're good to go.

noise coming from OUTSIDE. it's the outside winshield garnish panel. it rubs on the body (not even windshield). fought it for 2 years then suddenly pinpointed it while standing outside and fiddling with that plastic piece there - my girl shouted 'it's that creak that drives you nuts!!!!11111'. and it was fixed. i had a thread on that.

I have lubed area under hood in this area but to no avail. I saw your comment on this in another tread and hoped it would cure mine but it hasn't.

If it's outside why does it cease when pressure is applied to corner of dash inside car?

I appreciate it and had hoped it would cure the rattle.

Any idea as to what is under dash pad in the area to have come lose and rattle?

Default How to fix that rattle

I have the same issue: rattle between dash and windshield, mostly in cold weather when going over bumps, road expansion joints, etc. Dealer quoted about $1200 to remove dash and reinstall with some new clips. Car is out of warranty.

Parts to fix: 1 piece of craft felt, a square foot of it. Color not important. 50 cents. I clean putty knife that is NOT sharp (a plastic one is great).

Cut: Felt into a few 3 inch wide long strips, then fold lengthwise, in half.

Insert: Felt into area between dash and windshield with putty knife, pushing into the fold, until felt disappears from view (this is why color doesn't matter)

Drive: the car a bit to see if you fixed it. If not, put another strip next to the one you did, or another one on top of the one you just did.

Worked for me. Clean, cannot see the felt, easy.

I did something similar in that I wedged a piece of foam like material for lack of a better description. I did not push it all the way down out of site. I didn't know if I the gap once out of site was too large for the material to do any good i.e. putting pressure to silence the rattle.

Thus far, mine has been quiet and I figured I could remove in warm weather.

I had the same problem and solved it by doing the same thing. I also read that there was a TSB for this because of something with upper and lower windshield clips causing the problem. A TSB should be honored even out of warranty in my opinion to ensure customer satisfaction but not sure what the policy is on such a TSB that is not like threatening.

I had the same problem on my 05 LS430. I just ended up replacing my front windshield (insurance paid) and made everything 100% quieter. The tech that did the install said the last windshield was not seated and sealed properly which caused rubbing and some wind noise.

What type of coverage do you have?

And what was the reason you told them for them to accept?

Because I do see some small crack on mine.

I have USAA and it's covered for free. I just told them that my windshield is getting old and its ruining my visibility. I also had a few rock chips.
