I agree. In three years I have put the gas pedal to the floor maybe 10 times ...

.... I still want one, but won't bother, mainly because I rarely step on it often enough to bother and because I'd worry about dirt and water getting into the motor.

I wonder if the new sound isn't "intake honk"? I remember in the late '60s the LAPD had Plymouth Belvedere's tricked out like Roadrunners and when they stomped on it the intake honk sound was amazing. I could take the air cleaner off my Chevy 327 and run it to get that sound except it would suck dust and garbage into the engine. That air intake plenum is pretty big and fairly straight. I wouldn't be surprised if that's what you're hearing.
