Until you get a strong wind? Then it's guillotine time
Using common sense when working under the hood of any car in high winds is crazy in the first place. Also, before working under the hood outside in the elements I always check the weather reports for stormy or windy conditions that could be approaching.

True. If you are working under the hood in windy weather then maybe you deserve a guillotine

I've seen it happen to others. It's a painful thing to go thru I tell you that much. But then again some people just neglect proper maintenance on their auto. Lol!

It almost happened to me on my Lexus while checking the oil. That's why I want to get it fixed ASAP. I like my head on my shoulders!
Just ordered strong arms front struts yesterday. 32.50 a set on eBay. Free shipping. The company even emailed me a video on how to change them. How friggin cool is that
Their easy to do. If you don't have someone there to hold the hood then use a broom handle or piece of wood to support the weight while you switch them out.

Just did them today. First "to do" for 2014 crossed off my list. Took me around 30 minutes for all 4.
To remove the trunk struts, you just put a flat-headed screwdriver in the clip near the ball joint socket, turn the screwdriver to pull out the clip and then pull the connector off the ball socket.
To remove the hood struts, take a thin 11mm wrench and unscrew the top and bottom ball joints from the hood and body. Then screw in the new ones given in the kit and push the struts into them. Couldn't be easier.
I ordered my lift supports from Lift Supports Depot in Vista, California. You have the choice of the Strong Arm struts or Lift Supports Depots own brand. I went with the Strong Arm due to the positive feedback from everyone on this site.
Seems like they specialize in lift supports for all makes and models of cars. It was around $125 Canadian dollars for 2 x hood and 2 x trunk struts shipped to my door. Company was very pleasant to deal with and I highly recommend them.
I have a set from Figs. They work great have had them for over 2 years with lots of opening and closing along with being left open for long periods of time.
