went to look at this 05 today. car is cl with 79k, all maintenance records and clean carfax. They had both of the rear doors repainted due to scratches and the color does not match. How bad does this look, is this a deal killer.

Well ... white is the only color we buy so I'd sure go for that. IMO, the CL is the most desirable package - much more desirable than the UL. I may drive cars "forever" after I buy them but I don't buy 8 to 10 year old used cars. The only exception I would make would be if a really nice LS430 CL with Pre-Collision dropped into my lap.

Repaint only both rear doors...seems weird....it always pays to be acutely suspicious when looking at used cars. Any story you are told about a car is almost always fiction to some extent. Like someone suggested check vin numbers on all doors and other panels to see if they match the VIN tag on front dash. You can get the doors resprayed but be forewarned it can be difficult to match old and new paint without blending with quarter panels...if paint is close match you can choose to live with it - it is a 9 year old car at this point.

Maybe that was it they didn't blend, you have to clear the panels for and aft. But ya it is a 9 y/o car most people will object like yourself. Ask to see the receipts on the work, why did the guy accept it. The pics really are hard to judge.
How much does he want $ ? This will tell ya if it is worth the hastle, I could not live with it 9 y/o car or not. It would scream at me evrey time I walked out at 7 30 to work.

i checked the vin numbers on the door and they match. the car has all service history done at the lexus dealership, all oil changes adn factory services done every 5k at the same lexus dealership, they just put new tires, they told me that their kids or grandkids had scratched the door somehow so they had them repaired, they are older couple and they didnt even realize the difference till i pointed it out. the car has a clean carfax. they said they paid about 800 to repaint the doors, they were originally asking 18500 but said he would give it to me for 17000, i know trade in is about 14000-14500 at lexus.

gooshter, congrats on the finds, its pretty simple solution if the car has been maintained and drives well and tracks well without wind noise coming from the rear doors, give them a 1000 deposit tell them you want to bring the car to your local auto body guy to verify the front has never been hit and the rear doors are original with the stampings. seems like its a great car if the car has been maintained this is going to sound funny at 79k the car is just breaking in, the car with maintanence will last 500,000 miles with care
cheers good luck bring some cash and offer 16,750

A few months ago, I paid $15,900 for a close to mint 2006 LS 430, 77K miles with all Lexus service history... I love the car and think I got a sweet deal. Mine is not a CL but its like new with new tires and brakes. Your car I would think should be had for 16K max... I am not a big fan of repaints. Keep looking because there are other ones for sale, be patient and you will find a good one. I took over 2 months to find mine and I am very happy with it.

Thanks. Yeah I'm up in the air on this. My friend at lexus told me to offer no more than 15k. I asked the guy what lexus offered him and he said trade in was a little over 14. He originally listed it for 19.5k then lowered it to 18.4. I offered 16 and he said 17.5, then 17 after pointing out the door color.
I currently have a 00 ls400 with 125k.

From the badge aft of the front wheels, it looks like you have the Sport package!
The OP corrected my error - it is the Platinum package.
