Hey guys,
sorry for the boring thread but today for the first time im noticing my rear suspension is bottoming out on bumps.
im driving the same way and same speed as I always have , so im assuming they are needing replacement?
Or can this be something else?
Car does not seem to be sagging when looking at it parked.
Thanks

Doubt the shocks are the cause of the bottoming out, it might be saggy springs, the shocks job is to dampen the ride, typically it doesnt really offer any support on bottoming resistance, only rebound resistance to slow the motion back out. You'll notice on new shocks that its easy to compress them but its slow to rebound back out. Its not true for all shocks but most of the ones ive dealt with seems that way, its does offer a small amount of compression resistance but not more then the rebound. Does yours have air struts or the std steel springs?

Weather can effect the shocks, especially when it's really cold and say it's been sitting overnight. I could see it going away when it warms up.
Also, make sure what you're feeling is it actually bottoming out and not something like a sway link that's banging around.
If it's steel coils and not the air ride suspension, I doubt it's an issue with them unless something crazy happened like one of them broke, which is unlikely.
If it still bottoms out in the rear then I would probably look first at the shocks, when they go out completely, they can get a momentum going and it causes it to bottom out. Just make sure you're not throwing parts at it, sometimes suspension issues can fool you.

do the shock test to see if it is. push down on each corner of the rear and see how much it rebounds. if the struts are still good then it should just move back into the same position, if they are bad then it would bounce around.
this video is a general idea on how to do it.

When temps drop below zero mine does the same thing and goes away when warmer LOL. I do not remember it on my Premium. Do you have the Euro Sport suspension as I do?
Has the temps been cold just for this instance or have you had similar cold temps with no problems?

thanks a lot guys , my year is a 2003, and I am not sure if it has euro suspension, I doubt it .
The fact that the ride is pretty much the same, no bouncing and wobbling, and its only done it in the cold, tells me maybe they aren't gone yet.
Very strange though as it was not done during super high speeds or spirited driving.
Thanks for the video lil celsior
Yes warminwisc just in the cold, I just noticed it yesterday , so far its been great no issues at all.
Going for a drive now lets see if it happens again

looks like the rear is sagging noticibly now , as well as the ride seems to be more bouncy and making loud bangs on bumps.
I think they are blown.
Im going to take the plunge into coilovers, ive got a quote on some BC's, anyone have any advice ? Spring rates and anything else I might need to know?
Thanks
