LS - 3rd Gen (2001-2006) Discussion topics related to the flagship Lexus LS430

I don't think there will ever be another Lex like the 430. Rant alert!

Not sure why, maybe it was because it was both of our first experiences with Lexus and it was just such a step up from any car he'd had before (Cadillacs, Lincolns, etc) and something he had wanted for a long time (he had almost bought one three times before, in 1990, 1993 and 1995). Maybe because he got the 400 when I was a senior in high school and I had a great time driving it around to parties and school events and such...but that car to me is a very special car.

I still look around on eBay and auto trader every so often for a good cream puff 98-00 LS400...not sure why I would buy such a thing but I have a feeling someday I will just to have as a third car or something.
I'd have to admit there is something special about the 400's. That was the car that got me to liking Lexus way back in 92. I was only 17 but i knew one day i would be owing an LS. Still is my favorite car. Its epitomizes the luxury experience just short of a Rolls Royce imo. 400's changed the game. 430's took the game to new heights and the 460's took the game to another arena.

Yep, thats how I feel about that 98. I wanted that car for myself! By the time he traded it on the 04 I was already an adult, not living at home, with a job and a Lexus of my own actually and while I loved it, seeing where I was in my life and since I wasn't there driving it and riding in it and such it wasn't the same.

also Slvr sufr. I share both of your opinions of the Lexus as world changers. However, I came from it a bit different, from an older person's view. It was the SC400 for me. I purchased the car new in 1991, introduced in June 1991 as a 1992 introduction. Had to have the car. Put a down payment and got in line to take delivery. Got the car in Dec 1991 after waiting 6 months! Kept the car in near pristine condition until a red light runner T-boned my daughter in it. That beautiful hunk of steel kept her from being injured by the car was totaled. A absolute classic design that still holds it's own with the best of the new designs. No other Lexus shares it's precise driving and handling abilities in such a luxurious fashion in my humble opinion!

I walked into a Palm Beach, Florida Lexus dealer when the LS400 first came out in the USA and before Lexus arrived in Canada. I was in shorts and a t shirt and just wanted to see the car and hoped to be able to sit in it. The salesman came over to me and asked if I wanted to learn more about the car. I told him I would, but that I told him I lived in Canada and was not a buyer, he said OK - and gave me a full 20 minute presentation. After he finished he asked me if I would like to drive the car. I was shocked, but said yes ( of course ) and 10 minutes later I walked away hoping one day to buy one. Sadly, I never did.
