Itch for '11 Cadillac DTS Platinum
I have an itch to sale my '06 LS430 Custom Luxury for a caddy. I've always loved caddys and Lexus. I love the LS but just not sure which way I'll go. I certainly don't want to regret trading.
Anyone gone from LS to DTS?

I've owned a few Cadillac including a DTS and STS. If you buy at a low mileage and are under warranty you'll love the car. Once they get 50k plus miles the issues start popping up and the build quality is nowhere near the ls430. I had problems with the northstar engine headgaskets and transmission codes started popping up. Once that crap started it was time to get rid of them.

I was nce obsessed with the early to mid 2000-2005 Cadillac Deville's, and I spent a lot of time researching them before finding out they looked good but were not built to match.
Northstar engines have issues with head gaskets , which cost a ton to repair , they also burn oil right out of the crate, cant help it its just how they are , and they don't age well.
As bmore said once they get to a certain mileage their value drops to nothing and the problems pile on.
Cadillac is not on the same level as Lexus LS, in fact not even in the same ballpark.

I went through a phase in the early 2000's where I thought I wanted a STS. After following the Caddy forums for a while and seeing all the issues, it didn't take long to change my mind. I remember test driving one and trying to work a deal. I asked about an extended warranty, and the sales guy told me that extended warranties were tough to get on NorthStar engine cars. Not sure if he was being truthful or not, but that prompted me to do more research and ultimately bail on the entire idea.

Too funny BMW7_LS430!!! That is the LS I have....silver with the black interior.
I loved Cadillacs; always have. The N* HG issues were resolved by the time the latter year DTS' rolled off the line with the '11 the final year they were made much like'06 was the last year for the 430. I'd keep my 430 but don't need four vehicles. I have a 1988 Cadillac Fleetwood d'Elegance that I love and drive often. I'm the second owner and it's in great shape to be 26 years old with 162k on the clock.
Made my itch will pass and I'll keep the 430 and '88.................and pursue the DTS in 2015/2016.

That being said, I would never trade my LS for one.
They did iron all of the Northstar and other bugs out of it by the end of its life, but even so it still won't last as long as an LS430 and be as trouble free.
Like others have said, the build quality won't even be close. I am impressed with the leather and wood in the platinum trim, however (like most GM products) the other interior aspects fall short. The key, the gauges, the climate control and nav stack, window/lock switches, turn signal stalk, etc. They just look and feel cheap. I expect more in a $60,000 car, and that's what I love about my LS. Even though it's 10 years old now, it still *feels* like a $60,000 car.
I think you would probably have LS430 regret if you traded. It's all the little things that are so well thought out and put together that you take for granted and don't even think about, until they're gone. Just my 2 cents.
Let us know what you decide!

I agree that the little things on the 430 will be difficult to do with out. The auto door closer and rear sunshade come to mind along with the smart key. Although, there are some features on the DTS I would like such as remote start, intellibeam headlamps and a more modern feel to the nav.
I 100% agree you can't nor am I comparing the two as they aren't apples to apples.
Going back to the old school caddies......if I had to drive the Fleetwood only, I'd be in caddy heaven!

BTW, how do the door closers work in the LS? Are they pneumatic (air vacuum) like in the old S-classes? Do you hear anything when they activate? It's for all 4 doors, right?
Oh yeah, lol I'd love to roll around in a white or burgandy '91 Brougham with the 5.7L V8!

I had plenty of DTS loaners when I leased a trouble-prone '06 SRX and came to like them. I seriously considered a CPO DTS when I bought my LS a few years ago. I found that some cars on that platform, DTS & Lucerne, new or used, had a suspension shimmy that couldn't be corrected with alignments and wheel balancing. I remember test driving two DTSs back-to-back at a Cadillac dealership. One was fine and the other had the shimmy.

Ummm... Like torque steer? Fwd? How bout daewoo type of depreciation? Slipping tranny? Blown head gaskets? I too have always admired the DTS deville but I'd never want to own one. They are nice when they are NEW. There is a reason you can get a mid 2000s deville for 2000 dollars.. HORRIBLE build quality and they fall apart. The north star engine likes to blow up around 100k miles, and you would deeply regret your decision. I think we've all suffered from deville butt-itch once or twice but there's a easy cure for it. Hop on craigslist, search for a early 2000s DTS deville with about 100k on it and go for a test drive. This will stop the itch. Lol
