Interest in an update on how this is sounding!!! Had a similar idea, would love to hear how you think it sounds now, as well as in a few months. I added a sub in the trunk but our cars are like soundproof so interested in how this worked out, in cab.
So far so good. For an 8 sub I'm very impressed with the results, especially with the sub being free-air. I wouldn't recommend going this route unless you intend to sound deaden the trunk and rear deck. I was getting pretty bad rattles on the stock amp with the Dayton Audio 16 ohm subwoofer.

Ahh. Thanks for the quick reply. I too replaced the ML with the Dayton and I too get rattles. I didn’t remove the seats though I took the shortcut and cut it out. Hoping I can figure out how to end the rattles without removing the back seats. Rattles aren’t that bad though. I also have an aftermarket in the trunk and hopefully, I can get it loud enough to drown out the Dayton rattles lol. That being said, I still believe the Dayton is the best choice for replacing ML sub. Just looks like I shoulda put some sound deadening. Heck, for all I know the ML would have rattled too. It was blown when I got it.

So you installed an aftermarket sub and amp, but the DA sub is still mounted and plugged in? If you've already gone aftermarket remove the DA from the stock location to allow more bass into the cabin. As for rattles my biggest issue was the metal rod that is part of the rear sunshade unit. Even with my entire rear deck covered in Dynamat it still rattled. Once I wrapped the rod in Dynamat all was good.
90K mile service done on the 2006 I bought a few weeks ago. It was at 94K when I bought it and not everything was done beforehand. i mostly wanted my trusted mechanic to confirm I bought a solid car, which he did.
Bought a ES330 to keep my LS430 company. 2005, one owner, all service records, 129K on it, and only needs a few small items addressed. Not bad for $3500.

It's amazing what you can pick up inexpensively these days. Good deal. Just get that front passenger lug replaced and you will be good to go...

why not just leave the Dayton in too? It’s contributing! Perhaps minimally but it’s doing its part 😊
After my 2000 Gs300 (Lexi) was totaled over a week ago, I decided to join the ranks of the LS crowd today after my insurance took care of me..I present Esmeralda, my new 2002 LS430 base (ultra base..does not have the ML sound) with 229k miles on it. Paid about 3200 for her, near spotless black leather interior and very solid Lexus service history. She needs a bath, some headlight restoration and some serious need to visit a muffler shop for removal surgery..lol
My grandson replaced the engine and front cabin air filters on my 04 UL which has 139,059 miles. He then dissambled the smog filter, cleaned it, and reassembled and intalled it. Oil/filtger change and tire rotation (done at every even 5000 miles) due at 140,000 miles.
