What did you do to your LS430 today?

Make sure it is not overfilled. My 2001 LS430 with filter manual says 4.8 quarts and valve covers will leak if I put more in. Look at where that is on the stick and that should be your high mark. Also change your pcv valve if not done in awhile. Don't assume they replaced the plug gasket but you or someone else verify that is not where the leak is coming from. Also if they did not replace the collapsible gasket at first the threads might be stripped from over tightening. It happens quite often.

I believe there are idiot lights for both oil level and oil pressure. Not as good as gauges but I don't think I've seen an oil pressure gauge in a car for many many years.

An idiot light does not tell you when the oil is draining out untill it is too late. I dont think the LS430 has a low level indicator, It does have a low pressure light. But again, when it comes on its too late. Cadilac has a switch that cuts the ignition when the pressure goes to zero but that can also be a problem. I once had my Seville die and could not restart it, 60 miles from home, the tow bill was rediculous.. After I got it home I found that the wire from the sensor had come loose!!! Could have driven it home the pressure wasnt really zero!

Well, today I found out how much gasoline the 04 LS holds and also how wrong the estimated miles can be. It was estimating 57 miles to empty and when we came to our exit where it was only 5 miles to a gas station, the exit was blocked by an accident so we had to go past. 5 miles later we ran out of gas and called AAA. Something happened to 52 miles of fuel.....LOL An hour and a half later we were on our way with some gas. Filled up at the nearest station and calculations showed that it took 21.7 gallons to fill from empty which shows there was .5 gallon "unusable" from the published 22.2 gallons it supposedly holds. But it was a learning experience, dont trust computers and dont cut it that close again.

There is a low oil level warning. It will show up on the instrument panel in the message area under the tachometer.
Didn't the LOW FUEL warning light come on?

Yes it did come on but I was relying on the estimated 57 miles to empty message. I figured that with only less than 10 miles to go that the estimate would not be that far off. I was wrong. I havent ever experienced low oil level, just a slow leak but after the mechanic rocked the car with his strong arming of the plug I was worried about the possibility of a catastrophic failure of the threads that might cause a massive loss of oil in a short period of time.

If your estimated range is not showing approx. 50 miles when the Low Fuel light comes on, then you can't trust it.
Mine is always around 45-55 miles when the light comes on.
On one occasion I ran it down to 0 and even a few miles beyond before I finally found an open gas station (south central France).
She took 79.8 litres so only 2 litres were left in the tank (½ US Gallon) so I might have managed another 5-10 miles,... maybe.
As for the low oil level and low oil pressure lights (both are RED), if either of them comes on pull over ASAFP and switch the engine off.
You won't cause any engine damage if you pull over pronto. If you decide to go to the next exit, then engine damage is a possibility.
On modern engines that use no oil between services there is no point in having a gauge for either of these.

Have never trusted the “range” reading on the LS. That calculation appears to be based on the previous tank and not the current diving characteristics. Normally I get around 20 mpg in daily diving but recently on an extended drive the round trip ended in 23.5 mpg (which is not bad considering how fast I drive upon a freeway😎.
Pretty much when/if the low fuel light comes on it is time to head to the nearest gas station to refuel.

Car had trouble starting so I tested the battery and it had a bad cell. Took it back to Costco and with a few months left on the warranty, they gave me a new one at a prorated cost of $26. Not bad. I replace them every 3 years whether they need it or not due to the Texas heat exposure so it was almost time anyways.
New battery in and she fired right up. Good for another 3 years!
