I just got a quote a few days ago for a set of SP4's and it was a few hundred dollars cheaper than the estimated price.

Can you recommend the best, cheapest route and vendor/distributor to go through if you're located in socal? Should I but from a Cali distributor for a cheaper price (to save on shipping costs?), or does it not really matter to buy from west to east coast?

For Work Wheels I recommend Ravspec. I bought my wheels and accessories from them. They don't sell SSR's but they do carry Weds and Leon Hardritts as well. They're located in New York though.
FXAuto and Kamispeed sell SSR's.
Buying from the west coast would save you a little money on shipping unless the vendor offers free shipping. Kamispeed offered free shipping on the SP4's when I inquired and they're based out of Florida. Since you're in California take a look at VRwheels.com. They sell and refinish used high end wheels. They get new stuff in all the time and they can switch out lips and faces on wheels to make a custom setup. They're located in California.

I personally think if you're not going to lower the car aftermarket wheels look bad. Just keep it stock. You'll spend a lot of money on wheels and it will probably look worse.

Which brings me to a few more Questions:
What tire sizes should I run?
Since the car will either be stock height, or a mild 1" drop, then there is really no need to run stretched tires since I'm not tucking anything.
So will square walled work? ...like a 285 in the rear?
I am thinking for a F:9" and R:10"-10.5"... 245/35-20 & either 275/30-20 or 285/30-20 ..is this fine?
What kind of tires? ...looking for something that is decent/affordably priced, but still good quality. I see the RE760 and S-Drive models make tires in the aforesaid sizes. Are they any good? If yes, then I'd most likely just go this route and get those, as they are very inexpensive at only $200'ish a pop and still a very good company (can't go wrong with Bridgestone and Yokohama). Which is better? RE760 vs S-Drive? ..or, are they pretty much similar.

Again, it's not my car and my dad is conservative and kinda against mods. If anything, I'd have to really convince him for even a set of mild 1" lowering springs. So slamming the car and/or coilovers is totally out of the question. He's just interested in getting wheels and I am just doing research as to what fits and also point him in the right direction with my knowledge of nice quality jdm wheels (ie: not domestic super ugly american chrome overpriced "dubs" lol)
I agree, coilovers are the best mod and I myself am totally for it (I'm into driving, function and car's mechanics/engineering... vs. appearance and show and bling and rice). Had coilovers on my old EG 20 years ago, had swift springs and tanabe dampers on my SR S13 after that. And, planning to get a nice set in the future for an 86 for track purposes.

Maybe a mild 1" drop from tanabe or swift lowering springs if anything.

For the front I recommend 235/35/20 or 225/35/20. 245's may rub. Go with the Yokohama's. Hankook Ventus V12's are great tires as well.
