Unhappy Parts Source? $1,109.52 for plastic switch!

I'm hoping someone out there can help. I'm new to the forum, and recently purchased a 2002 LS430 white with the ecru interior. The ride is pretty clean with only a few (what i thought) was cheap fixes needed. The overhead dome light has a switch located between the two map lights right in front of the sunroof. The slider switch that selects ON, DOOR, and OFF is missing (just has a metal post sticking out that the plastic clips on to). Just called the dealer and was told that the switch cover is not sold separately and that I would have to buy the whole assembly for $1,109.52 to get the switch!

Does any have one available? My next step is to contact junk yards, but there is no specialty salvage yards around so i'm having a hard time finding that color for that car.

Check this out.

I think it is 81260A. Probably get one from a salvage yard for 1/4 of the price.

Wow. Same story here. Didn't know it was that high. Had to replace my LS 430 due to being totaled and the replacement one just has the metal prong like yours; cover is missing. Gonna take the one off my old car and put it on this one.
Try a junk yard.

I can't help but wonder what idiot prior to my ownership managed to break/remove the cover.

I had the same thought! What happened that that part went missing? Crazy. Anyone know of a salvage yard that specializes in Toyota/Lexus that would ship to me?

Thanks for the links. How does this compare to Sewell? I guess that is a good final solution if I can't dig one up from the salvage yard.

Try our used parts vendors in the classifieds like Aliga, but they seldom get LS430s

Look at http://www.car-part.com/ to put out a specific request and find used LS430's in salvage yards near you (or ship)

These guys have LS400 parts, not sure of LS430
http://www.grahamsauto.com/about/about.html

Check also to see if the part or interior color changed from 2004 - 2006 (vs just 2001 - 2003), you might get more hits that way.

PS., I prefer Sewell vs the other linked above. They've got great service and prices, plus they support our community. Make sure to sign up on their site with your Club Lexus member name for our discount.

There are web sites that you can do a global search by part description on all junk yards nationwide that share the search db. Or try searching for toyota junk yards on the web. It can be very tough finding a not too common part like that. Better just to search for LS430 seats or dash and then call the junkyard and describe the part. If they have any LS430s they may likely have the part.

honesty my friend. Treat others the way you'd want to be treated and the world will be a much better place. Plus, that's stealing!

It was a joke, relax. What's stealing is Lexus charging that much for a cheap part.

I'm relaxed. Glad it was a joke. And if u see Lexus's high prices as stealing, then taking something off someone else's car without their permission should be even more recognizable as an act of thievery.
