I ended up buying the 2014 14.1 update/dvd for about $100 too, and installed it myself. The pdf instructions made it sound like you have to remove a lot more screws/bolts to get to the dvd player (which, in a 2005 LS430, is in the rear right well area inside the trunk) . I only needed to remove the carpet/mat in the trunk and remove 2 philips screws to load the dvd into the player. Looks like it is a dual-layer (8GB) dvd disc.

Popped in the new dvd, and I have a 10-year update now, with all the latest POIs! I also see that it shows the next 3 turns (on the right) during navigation, which I never saw when using my original (4.2) dvd, which is quite helpful.

I lost my non-saved Pervious Destinations list, and it thought I was in the WV/PA area instead of CA initally, until I told the nav unit to use the CA area as default.

I think the update was well worth the price.

I know the GEN4 is a plug and play on the GEN3 harness so this should be a simple swap.

1. Are the mapping or menus different ?
2. Is navi with it more accurate and better results when finding a location ?
3. Is it really that much faster ?
4. If it looks the same, is there any major features to make it worth going to ?
5. IS it possible (if so, how) to get Bluetooth support by replacing the DVD/Navi Drive ?

I have been looking and last year vendors were asking $600+ for them but, now the prices have dropped quite a bit for used ones.

My 2001 works fine but, I wanted something a newer look and something that would has better logic in mapping than the 2001 has...With out changing the look of the car (3rd party kits I wont even look at)

The BIG question....My 2001 works fine (still 2003 maps) IS it worth the upgrade? I do plan on keeping my 2001 for another year or 2 before looking to upgrade something.

Can a GEN5 fit in a 2001 by chance (that should give a whole new look) ?

If I could get Bluetooth, that would be EPIC but I am not counting on it..

Thanks in advance !!!!!
Don't touch it. Just leave it alone and just use your cell phones gps / maps.
