Upgraded my navigation DVD
It's really quite simple. Just unscrew two bolts, lift up on the front of the unit, turn car to ACC or on, eject DVD and insert the new one. It's version 13.1
I normally use my Garmin but it is nice to have the latest version in case I use the internal system. 14.1 should be out in October.

I did the same in May. Order the latest off ebay for $50. Quick and easy.
My nav did start acting up a few days ago. For about 2 days, it would randomly say it couldn't read the DVD. I cranked my car up on Thursday and the screen turned to multicolor static, and then went back to normal. Hasn't happened again since. I'm thinking it might have been moisture related. Extremely humid and hot the last week or so.

I updated mine to 13.1 about a week ago. Very easy.
Even with the 13.1 update, sometimes it seems like it takes the long way to get to places. Aftermarket navs still seem to calculate better routes and estimated time of arrival.

also far too often when using my nav, I get the response " the navigation guidance system will not be provided in this area"
I have a Kenwood DNX8120 in my truck which is a Garmin software based unit and have never had any issues, except for user error. I wish Lexus would use Garmin software. Not trying to start any debates with Lexus nav lovers but IMHO I believe Lexus dropped the ball in this arena

You can have your override like on your last disc and have the newest maps...
The question is if your DVD drive will ready a DVR+R DL disc, my 2001 would not read them at all....

Interesting. My 04 reads my DL +R just fine. I will look for that. I actually never had the override as my car came with 12.1 Do you know what the last version that had the override in it?
Also, are you using the right software? You need generation 2 for a 2001 LS430. Gen 3 is for 02 - 03. Gen 4 is for 04 - 06.

I am pretty sure that the override was not taken from 2004 LS models, I think you need to go back to version 5 or so.. search around here on ....
This is what I am referring to....

So, you pull a few files from the older disk, pull all the map files from your new disc and combine them and burn a Hybrid disc...
You'll get the newest maps but, same feature set from the older software (is there actually any changes as that goes ?) and override drive will work....

If you have the 13.1/12.1 and you want to enable the override, I believe you need a 5.1 disc, and follow the directions in the above link. You need to take files from the 5.1 disc and combine them with the maps from the 13.1 disc then burn them to a DVD+R DL disc...
At least you could get a used 5.1 disc on ebay or something like that for almost nothing these days...and if you hunt around on some other fourms, some people were sharing the files for a GEN4.. I saw them looking around but, exactly where, I do not remember..
This SHOULD work....
Details to back up what I was saying...it stopped working (overdrive), after 5.1...

some of these threads are hilarious,, this nav system was designed in late nineties for a launch in late 2000 it was cutting edge back then and nav screen still looks decent with clarity, any comparisons to new units or garmin is irrelevant,

Always thought the 2001 was gen 3 (well most refer to it as 2/3). Yes, I know the 2004-6 have GEN4....and on my GEN 2/3 system, it will not read DVD+R DL discs...It might read them for a bit but, will error out almost every time.. I am running a GEN4 in my 2001 LS but, that is a different story...but, I have not tried a DVD+R DL on it...yet

FYI I tried to get a hybrid to work for weeks without success; used every form of burnable DVD available +/- RW R different brands etc etc. Only a couple of people ever reported success and one of those told me via PM that he discovered success only worked in the driveway, not in motion. I gave up.
