New to Lexus, forum, and tilt woes
Hello all i finally gave up on a long Jaguar obsession and have bought my first Lexus, a 2003 430 the engine is lovely, ride smooth and so far so good. But it has developed what seems to be a common problem in that the steering wheel is fixed fully down and fully in. i heave read the posts relating to this but i have a further question.
I have checked all 3 fuses which are good but there is nothing
when i operate the adjuster joystick thingy should i hear a relay click somewhere as there is nothing at the moment, and i wondered if this could be the problem as nothing at all works?

Here's a very thorough write-up on the tilt and telescopic steering:
https://www.clublexus.com/forums/ls4...-write-up.html
I would start with removing the steering cowl/cover. Operate the 4-way switch (joystick) up and down to see if the tilt motor jack screw moves. Then, operate the 4-way switch (joystick) back and fro to see if the telescopic motor jack screw moves. If they don't move at all, then chances are the associated motor is bad. On the other hand if you see movement, then you may just need to lubricate the jack screw to restore the tilt or telescopic function. Unfortunately, some motors move but lack sufficient torque to move the steering wheel.

Thanks for the quick reply
i removed the cowl today but there is absolutely nothing, no movement on tilt or tele and no click from a relay, I just wondered if the lack of a click meant that the relay was duff wishfull thinking really because a new relay is relatively cheap compared to the motors!

Believe it or not, the tilt and telescopic motors are powered by 200V AC (yes, AC). I will look up some inspection procedures for you shortly.
One question, do you have access to a OBD II code reader? Here are some error codes associated with the Tilt and telescopic issues:
B2610 Tilt motor circuit malfunction
B2611 Telescopic motor circuit malfunction
B2620 ECU circuit malfunction
B2621 Communication interruption

Otherwise if you still want to have the automatic tilt and telescopic, keep in mind that these motors can run up to $400 USD each. It's worth doing some troubleshooting to make sure they are really what you need. Here are the diagnostic procedures:[/QUOTE]
OMG AC!! i am out of my depth here i can see it thanks so much for all the info i will start working through the inspection procedure tomorrow weather permitting. if it comes to nothing it will be the manual route for me as i am the only driver of the car, thanks again for the documentation

Thanks for the help i followed the instructions but unfortunately (or fortunately) i have voltage at the motors so it seems like it is two expensive motors for me

Actually you can also look for motors off of a salvaged vehicle. Before I traded in my 430, both my motors went out. I found a salvage company with relatively new motors that was half the price of new. Just a thought.

This will show more than a standard reader could and you can adjust the delay on the lights and other things...
I picked mine up for $16...works perfect.. Used a old Windows 7 starter Netbook I was going to dump on ebay but, I guess I have a use for it now...
