Nice DIY. It's too bad they could or did not incorporate the auto "I agree" disable after 5 second with our LS430's. I think only Gen 5's vehicles got this feature.
Also, it probably is good practice to turn off the car before reattaching the navigation unit. Don't forget to set your region when you upgrade as it defaults to region 8 or 9 I think.
Sorry to bring back and old post with very simple instructions. I popped my dvd out to see what version so I could at least make sure that it was the latest even though it would still be outdated. Now the same dvd that I popped out which is OEM wont load back into the unit. the unit will make noises like it's trying to read a disc but obviously there's nothing in there then after a while it will pull the disc inside and then immediately eject it again. I've been going through this for the past hour. Why does this car have to make something so simple, so complicated? The disc is label side up and I've tried this with the key in the ACC, On and engine started position but it keeps ejecting the disc back out. It has to be user error on my part but I just can't understand how. I've googled and searched the forum on my phone for a solution but everything that comes up is talking about the disc not ejecting so now I'm reaching out to see if anyone has dealt with this before. Right now I have the negative cable off to see if this will reset something in the unit and allow it to load the disc.
Take a look at Step 4 where you slide the "PUSH" button to the left and then push in to eject the DVD. Make sure the "PUSH" button did not get stuck half way. From your description, it sound like the "PUSH" button my be partially pushed in.
I was thinking along those same lines with the behavior it's displaying and It does not look like the button is stuck. It did not immediately eject the dvd when I first removed it either. The instructions say to turn the car to ACC but that did not originally eject the dvd, neither did the ON position so I had to actually start the car and when I went back to the trunk the dvd was out. Is there a specific reason why the instruction state to ONLY place the ignition in the ACC position? I'm thinking that starting the car might have screwed something up. After reconnecting the negative battery cable now the display is Saying to insert the proper disc and has the japanese symbols where as before it was just saying to insert the map dvd. I've done extensive work on my 400 over the years from removing the WHOLE interior of the car including the sunroof as well as opening up the engine, TB, starter, removing camshafts to change the cam seals so it's almost embarrassing to come her and ask about inserting a dvd.
I need to go check my version on my car, although I rarely use it. My phone seems to be much more accurate.
Any suggestions on where to get an OEM update at a reasonable price? Back when I looked into it updating my '04 a couple years ago, the latest versions were going for $150 which is way overpriced for an old Nav system.

First, go to mylexus.com and determine the latest disc P/N that is compatible with your vehicle. Then go to e-Bay and get a disc for less than $15. Just be sure it is the correct P/N.
For future reference, you can check the DVD version without popping it out of the reader...
Still a no go. I took it out the trunk and opened it up since I read some posts about letting the battery die so it can reboot itself. I also ordered a copy of the latest maps off ebay just for the heck of it. I don't know how long it's going to take for the little battery to die so we'll see what happens. This is the latest dvd for the 04-06 LS 430.

Your starting the car to get the DVD to eject is not in compliance with the owners manual. Consequently they may have an effect of the DVD operating properly. I suggest that when you receive the new DVD that you disconnect the battery for thirty minutes or so and then reconnect and follow the ownrs manual to see if you can install the new DVD.
I originally just put the key to the ACC position but the disc would not eject but your thinking is sound since no where does it state to have engine running. I just want to get this resolved since I have to change rotors and pads all around and 1 rear caliper on my wife's 350.
Just to finish it up, I got the updated disc from Ebay today version 15.1. I've had the nav module out of the trunk draining the little battery to see if that would reset the system. So I put the module back together and unhooked the negative battery cable for 30 minutes. I plugged it back up in the trunk and reconnected the negative cable and waited a couple of minutes. Turned the key to the ACC position and the nav would not even power up so i then turned it to the ON position and still nothing so I just started the car and the nav screen came on ( All other controls on the screen were working except the nav). I popped the disc in and it still was ejecting immediately!!! This went on numerous times so I'm pissed. Then I remembered a post from a member saying that he had to force the disc in to get it to catch so I got my thin blade putty knife and positioned it on top of the disc and when it pulled the disc in I slid the blade on top and then pushed the disc down. When it did not come back out I looked at the nav screen and saw it updating. The feeling of success and relief was undeniable. Thanks for all the help and suggestions. Now I have to finish up brakes and rotors on the GS so I can then address the non functional mirrors on the 430.
