Are our rides obsolete now?

Forgot about my wife's favorite. She still plays her old White Lion, Kiss, and Bon Jovi tapes on there. That's one thing the new fancy cars don't have anymore...

Someone said this in another post/forum here in CL but if you look at 10 year + cars that are still around on the road...you'll start seeing which ones were quality built vs those with lots of gadgets but had poor reliability.
i.e. I see a lot of BMW 3-series still around, but rarely the 7 series (10 years or older) on the road. I think the same goes for the LS430...the ones I see are still in pretty remarkable condition for a car with a decade of age on it, even when compared against a Camry or Avalon...
A vehicle is supposed to reliably get me from one place to another, in relative comfort and economical means. The Lexus LS does exactly that...

Well you guys just reassured me about doubts i had about the relevancy of my car going into the next couple of years. I do get the itch from time to time for something newer but every time i mention me getting the 460, everyone from my girlfriend, best friend, to my pops say im crazy and stick with what i have now. They would think i was crazy for getting rid of my car now. By it being paid of this year i would have an influx of extra cash i can do other things with. All hale the LS430!!!

My LS is not my daily driver. I had it for almost 7 years now. I mostly use it on the weekends or to take long trips. Everytime I drive this thing the quality reminds me why I fell in love with it. This V8 is one of the smoothest engines I ever drove and it scarred me for life. I even considered getting an old Land Cruiser 100 series just cuz of toyota quality and that V8 which is a slight variation from the 430. New tech gizmos will always be added to newer model cars but the quality and smoothness that the ls has will always cost you a pretty penny. Love my ls

Three trips from NJ to FL, 3 different cars with three different experiences and one surprise. First trip was in a rental PT Cruiser, load as heck and no power, but ride surprisingly mushy so comfortable. 2nd trip in LS, 'nuff said it was great, 3rd trip in MDX, the ride was long and harsh, felt the worst getting there in the MDX. All trips were starting time midnight and 18 hours trip, so no variance in timing. I felt in LS like I didn't even drive there.

I agree with the exceptional build quality of the LS430. Got my first Lexus, a 1997 LS400 in 2003. Couldn't believe the comfort and smoothness. Went to a 2002 LS430 CPO in 2005. Outstanding move! It got totaled in 2010 and I'm in another 2002 L430. Took it in to Lexus for some overnight work this week and got a 2014 ES350 loaner.. Discovered my 13 year old LS rode much quieter and smoother than this new ES with 2k miles on it. WOW. I plan on getting a 2006 LS and put it in storage, alternating driving them since I'll never touch the 460 because of the issues they have.

Obsolete?
Technology wise, yes.
Refinement wise, no.
It is still not that bad, really. Sure most luxury cars start to have 8-speeds, but majority of the normal cars are still 6-speeds or less.

its been 8 months
since my ls430 was replaced and really miss some of the cars characteristics particuallarly the power train and low end torque
i now have a 15 camry xle w nav and have to say it really is obsolete from an ergonomic design, efficiency and bluetooth, audio perspective.
things i appreciate that led me to make the change
now getting 30 mpg combined saving 250 bucks a month in gas
audio outstanding compared to our older ml systems
bluetooth integration
ergonomic design of interior although i loved my ls430 interior but seat was aging with comfort with cushion
bottom line is for all those with low mileage low problem ls 430 which is a lot of them its the best car ever made maybe my 98 ls 400 equal, keep it till you can't afford to drive it
those looking for practicality or upgrade w features to newer standards its time to look.
my camry w nav was 23k

Obsolete....no way, I just bought one. To be honest, most of the techs in today's cars do not contribute to the driving experience. All I need is music and a great ride. I also have the LS460 and I hardly use half the features in that car.
