What type of Jack do you own
So I wanted to put the LS up on jack stands but i currently just have a cheap 2.5 ton Torin that didn't feel up to the job. What do you guys have? I am thinking about going to Harbor Freight for a 3-ton rapid pump.
There was a 3 ton at costco a couple months ago but the are OOS now. Just looking for some recommendations. I would like to do the Diff fluid this weekend.

The OTC is the house favorite around here. Light and sturdy; lifetime warranty
We've also had the Costo Arcan jack and it's a good one - very heavy though to roll around. It just wasn't quite low enough for some of our applications (wife's lowered racecar).
You'll be fine with the Harbor Freight or Northern Tool jacks, but get the extended warranty. We went through a half dozen of them before switching over to higher quality stuff just for the inconvenience of return/replacements.

I use my rhino ramps when I can, otherwise I have the 3ton low profile harbor freight jack (still not low enough for my Z though). Just remember to bleed it occasionally and maintain it as with all tools.

I use a 3.5 ton jack I bought from Northern Tool. I can't remember the brand but it works great on my lowered cars. My SC was slammed for a while and it was the only jack that could lift it up.
The only problem is that it weighs 100 pounds. It weighed my entire rear end of my Saturn down when I brought it home.

Not the same one that I had, but looks like you can get it shipped if not local

Mine is 3.25 ton, the XL325R, but I doubt it makes a difference. Unless you're literally trying to lift the entire car in the center, you're not going to get anywhere close to the limit of the jack. I've never lifted a LS430 with it, but it's done its fair share of lifting with little effort on my part(other than moving the dang thing around). It is also low enough that it easily fits under lowered cars. Then the jackstands go straight in. I never do anything around a car that's only supported by the jack unless it's an emergency and I have no stands.

I buy some things at HF but I would not buy a jack there. Too much can go wrong and ruin your whole day with a cheap jack. I bought a 3.5 ton all steel jack from Costco that is built like a tank and love it. My son and his kids will likely still be using it in 50 years.

The one I got from Costco is high quality. I would not recommend a Craftsman one, even though I usually like their hand tools. Had one fail on me only after a few uses, the seal broke and started gushing out fluid.
When you see one fail, it's definitely a good reminder to use jackstands after you have the car up and not just rely on the jack.
