Default Cracked Air Intake

Hi everyone. I noticed the other day that one of the plastic connectors that holds a vacuum hose to the air intake had cracked. We come to find out I need to replace the entire air intake piece. Bummer. Anyone have ideas on where to find one? I found one on eBay for 125 which seems semi reasonable. Is there a way I could fix this?

Yes, the part circle is what cracked and broke off

I would first try and epoxy it rather than buying a new one. Just get a good 2 part epoxy or putty (not superglue). Should be an easy job that would save you a lot of money. Or JB weld. It will be PLENTY strong and the engine heat won't effect it.

Something like these:

You can use a pice of copper pipe of same diameter and epoxy it to the box too. Will be cheaper than new or used box.

Thanks. I am thinking about getting some heater hose to replace the vaccum line and putting it in the hole and then filling any gaps around it with epoxy. My mechanic was concerned about an epoxy and a piece of it loosening and getting sucked into the engine.

Or insert a brass ferrule with a small amount of epoxy on the rim. A whole new intake manifold is crazy.

I haven't really looked at it closely, but if you're missing the plastic connection nipple, you could match it up with something in the "Help!" section of the autoparts stores where they sell all sorts of plastic connectors like that and make something work with a little of the epoxy. Just put the putty or epoxy on the outside of the box and maybe a hose clamp around the connection on the vacuum hose so it could not pull away from the vacuum hose.

I haven't really studied how that piece is routed in the intake or even what it does, but if done with some common sense, I think it would probably be pretty difficult for a scenario like that to happen where a piece gets sucked up in the engine.

But you could also probably find the whole unit cheaper at a salvage yard than that Ebay price if you called around if you just wanted to not fool with the project.

That's perfect, that is what is missing is that nipple. I will try and replace that with some epoxy! Thank you!

Well I installed a small vacuum connector and got it all situated. Drove to work today and have a CEL on. Ugh! It's been completely disconnected for weeks!
