For the record, I got plasti dip in black, pearlizer and glossifier in an attempt to mimic the OEM black pearl badges.
The pear turned my freshly painted black to a nice pearly gray - not good. I then added a very light coat of black and it came out nearly perfect.
Tomorrow, if the weather complies, I'll paint the chrome grill surround and trunk lid badges. AND take some pics.
What was your prep before painting? Was it a new emblem? I've got gold emblems that I want to change. I had planned on the chrome emblems but, to be honest, seeing the chrome ones on a black car like mine seems a bit boring. Wonder if something black would look good.
Clean and dry that's it. Plasti dip will stick to anything and can remove it easily. My rear chrome badges are fading and showing some gold which sparked all this.
I've used plastidip on emblems and wheels before. Super easy to apply and take off as well. Only prep is a good wash. Literally peels off like vinyl (if you put on enough layers) with a perfectly unharmed surface underneath. I wish my car had the gold emblems. If it was black I'd buy them but its silver and I'm not really sure how that would look. Thinking about dipping my emblems black. On a previous Infiniti of mine that was black I did the emblems and wheels anthracite. Looked great on black.
I ended up having to redo the front L since I didn't let the first iteration dry enough before the rain. Got covered in crap with the water that wouldn't come off. And of course I can't reproduce the perfect color again.
I'm wondering how it would look to paint the chrome trim piece that wraps the entire car at about knee level...
Went through that. It is a pain trying to sit them up right if you took them off. But you can get a way with a looot of masking all around. And then just spraying them while they're on the car.
I had a better experience just wrapping it with some good 3M vinyl.
^That got me carried away into blacking the headlights and the rear lights, just for everything to match up. Finally decided to keep the car 3 tone instead of 2 tone. Red, chrome, black.
