Default 2006 Lexus LS430

Carmax has my dream car, white with tan interior. it has 38,000 miles on it. The mileage is what freaks me out (besides the price of $22,500). It says no haggle price....but anyways... What should be immediately done to this vehicle, timing belt, water pump.......?

I think some people either go with maintenance based on time or mileage. In your case it would be time rather than mileage obviously. Not tonsure on the price though seems high….I bought my 2006 with 20,000 miles on it 2 years ago for $27,000 modern luxury package with navigation. I did it because it was a one owner and I really wanted the car. Also white with tan. i noticed the one you are looking it is a base car too, no navigation. Seems a little high on price but if you like it go for it, looks clean

And always remember, very very low mileage isn't always a green light that gives a go. Cars that have been parked for the majority of their life would be like comparing someone who exercises on the daily but is old, and on the other hand, a very young car mileage wise that would need a lot of care like a baby who doesn't know a thing.

Front bushings are going to be a must for a 38k '06 car. Maybe suspension too.

Other things like water pump, timing belt, etc. don't cost too much, and always a good idea to give the car these refreshing updates if you had just bought it.

Check the interior too, make sure it is not brittle and still holds shape.
Has it been a California car it's whole life?

I would haggle the price. Bought my '06 CL 2 years ago w/ 55K 1-owner all required maintenance done = $21K. Car was a garage queen from the state where tHeKiNg911 hails from!

Be sure to check the vehicle maintenance history through the Lexus owners website.

I'd definitely try to work with them on the price. Typically these dealers like Carmax don't budge on their overinflated asking price due to their ability to offer financing to people w all levels of credit. If you can obtain lending elsewhere perhaps through a credit union or your bank, you could offers them a lower (more appropriate) cash price. You can also negotiate them down for any questionable items not in the most perfect condition (scratches, dents, fading, needed maintenance, blown speakers, and a big one is aged tires..check the date code on the tires as many low mileage cars have decent tread but may be older than 6yrs. picked up a 2004 fully loaded sport w nav in perfect condition w 50k miles here in SCAL in December of 2014. All maintenance done every 5k at Lexus. Talked them down to $17,500 cash w lending through my credit union. I went ahead and did the timing belt water pump all associated tensioners and pulleys and all belts and hoses just to be on the safe side (used coupon at Toyota dealership and got all work done for $1,500) and it included 4 tickets to long beach Grand Prix race

price is way high. They are betting on people willing to pay rather large premium for the low miles, which, to some people is indeed worth it.

guess i disagree with those that suggest replacing parts due to age in this case. Carefully inspect things like the bushings and if the car drives fine I wouldn't just start replacing things. Including the timing belt or water pump.

That sounds way high... CarMax must be trying to recoup some of the warranty expense for Range Rovers they sold.

Carmax will not haggle on the price. You'll have to wait until they reduce it.

not sure where you're at but there's a nice Black Cherry '06 UL with only 38k miles on Wash DC craigslist right now. Estate sale. Only asking $18,500. Looks in good shape and maintenance history is OK.
