Is your garage door opener a Chamberlain manufactured since around 2012? Around that time period Chanberlin went to a new version of Homelink that was not compatible with the LS430. They didn't reveal that fact to purchasers of a new opener. Instead, a purchaser had to buy a "frequency converter" from Chamberlin to allow the opener to communicate with our car's Homelink.
If this applies in your case, I suggest you call Chamberlain. I'm sure there is an older thread on this subject which you could probably search and find.

I did read the instructions and the lights behaved as documented but the car HomeLink still won't activate the newer Chamberlain door.
The wife's recently acquired LS460 worked on both the doors just fine but can't get the newer door programming to work on the '01 LS430.
Lights go to the slow blink and change to the fast blink acting like it picked up the code but when pressed the door does not recognize the signal.
Not a big deal as this is for the alternate slot and this was more a convenience and not a show stopper....

My RX300 behaved like what you're describing. For some reason, I had to press AND HOLD the button. Not long, but 2-3 seconds, which felt like an eternity compared to the handheld remote opener. Quite frustrating, and I went through the programming process prolly 3-4 times before I stumbled upon the press/hold thing.
