Bear in mind too I'm comparing a 2015 460, the 2013 refresh something like 3000 components were new. May not bee 100% applicable to older ones.

I'd like to have some seat time in the 2013+ LS460 to compare. Mine was a 2010 460L. Although, the direct injection still concerns me when it comes to noise. I even ruled out the ecoboost engines on my 2015 F150 partly because they were direct injection and partly because of the turbos.

How loud the DI is I think depends a lot on the unit. my GS for instance had a very notable DI tick that you could clearly hear, the engine idled like a diesel. My LS by comparison, you can hear it outside, but inside if I'm sitting at a light with the radio off I don't hear it.
Seats I know were improved significantly for 13, seat complaints are common on 07-12 460s. Best seats I've had in a Lexus though were the 18 way power seats with the multi-contour backrest in my GS.

This thread is distressing. At some point, my '02 LS 430 UL with 144k will have to be replaced. My guess is in 3 to 5 years and moderate mileage LS430's will be extremely difficult to find at that point. The LS 460 will be the logical choice but it will be unpleasant to get a model that is inferior to my LS430. I suppose I could try to find a '05 or '06 with reasonable miles and good maintenance history now but that only prolongs the problem as it may only buy me another couple of years.
In any case, plenty of time to figure it out before that point comes.

The LS460 is at the end of a very long model cycle, and its replacement is on the horizon (search for the LF-FC concept, thats the next generation LS).
Its still a great value in the segment, but its been handily eclipsed by newer versions of the S Class, A8 and 7 series, thats why sales are as low as they are. The LS isn't going anywhere. Even for 2016 they came out with some material enhancements which surprised me since its a lame duck year before a redesign.
That whole segment isn't what it used to be. The S Class for example is the sales leader with say an average of 1500-1800 units a month. Remember back in the heyday of that segment, the S Class was doing 45k units a year, the LS was doing 35k, 7 Series 30-35k.
I will say this though, and this is partly why I bought my LS460 when I did. The next one will be a big shift towards a more dynamic car and away from the LS430 as the rest of the brand is going, I also expect it to be considerably more expensive (probably LWB only since thats where the segment is going, starting in the high 80s-$90k)
So if you are a big fan of the smooth/cushy ride, and you don't have a $100k budget, you might wind up in a Genesis G90 (Hyundai Equus).
I plan to keep my 460 for a long time.

The reason why is clear, the S Class is an all new car as of 2014, the LS is essentially 8 years old. Don't count them out, an all new LS is overdue, when it gets here in 2017 things will change.

If you drive some of the new platforms, the GS, etc you'll see that they're capable of making some really compelling cars. I have high hopes.

so i had the LS430 for last couple of years- i traded it for a 2011 LS460- i liked the ls430 so thats why i bought i a low mileage LS430 sport edition blk/blk. It was great car never had any issues- i had to replace the shock+ wheel bearing / bad NY pot hole ended up putting BC coils on it.
Only other thing was a Grom so i can play the USB songs. Only reason i got rid of it was i wanted a AWD and having LX in the snow then the LS just really sucked.
I have had mostly all rwds but then i was by myself and no kids- now i got two little kids in the back and i had couple of situations last year in the snow where we live the roads are not really clean and the rear gave out- had good tires too...(not snow tires) so it had to go.
The LS 2011 while not the 2013+ i couldn't justify double the price for marginal improvements on latest and greatest the 2011 has pretty much all i need.
I like the car so far - its quiet and plenty of power and while the quality i think for ALL Lexus went downhill after the 2006 models is ok.
Would i have kept the LS430 absolutely, its a better car? maybe depending on certain characteristics but it some ways the LS460 is better.
End of the day i wanted AWD and LS460 feels great so far have no regrets.

I may be interested in a newer Lexus again after they restyle the front end. I love the Lexus brand and its superb customer focus and reliability but that new front end styling is not my cup of tea. I think Lexus is going to find that they need to tone down the front end styling over the next couple of years which will be about the right timing for me to get a 2019 LS or GS : )

I think you're going to find that the front ends are going to get more radical before they get toned down. Another reason why I got my 460 now. I like the spindle grill on mine, but the ones on the refresh GS, ES, NX, new RX are a bit much for me.
