How much would one spend, driving 104,000 miles in a 2014 S550 or LS460? 16 months and no issues = $2000 in tires, oil changes & differential a fluid change.

I'm not sure I understand the question...are you asking which would be cheaper to own for 104,000 miles? The LS for sure.

Would anyone here get an A8 or a Phaeton as a LS substitute?

an A8 is probably an upgrade in every way except reliability.

The A8 doesn't ride like the LS, its tauter and sportier. The Phaeton was a good car, hard to find and also tauter and sportier.

True. Most German cars are not softly sprung and ride sportier than the LS
What do you think of the new Avalon as an LS replacement ?

The new Avalon is basically the ES, it's not going to be anywhere near as refined as the LS. Best bet in that price segment new is the Genesis.

I drove a bunch of A8's , there are many wheel and sport packages but I thought some drove as nice as the LS but smearer the poop out of the LS handling wise(some have air shocks I think). SW ok to disagree no one is right or wrong.

"Phaeten you would just be waiting" for an expensive repair according to the VW guys who service my VW Touareg. It was such a limited production car the engineers did not know if they where coming or going with the Phaeton.

I know reliability reports on the A8's in our range of years are jaded but you can also find owners with stellar repair histories who service their cars regularly. I know an older guy with an A8 2004 never had a lick of trouble.

Genesis RWD, Equus RWD, A8 AWD, BMW 7 series RWD. I will take an A8 their reliability is decent now but i have 3 years to 200 k to decide. I would buy used with long warrantee.

ES, Avalon ain't owning no stinking FWD nor the whiney but proven 3.5 6cyl

A8 got a 8 speed tranny with the 2011 redesign.in 2 years maybe I can find one in the upper 20's. Talks about a compliant ride as well as sporty. With AWD might not need the A/S 3's!

They ride well, everything in that segment rides well, perhaps similarly to your LS with the sport suspension and 18s. If you have a UL or standard spring 430 on 17s though the A8 is definitely firmer.

You have an LS with the sport suspension and on UHP tires on 18 inch wheels. Makes sense an A8 rides about as well as your LS.

Everybody is entitled to their opinion but not their own facts. Your LS doesn't ride like a UL LS or a standard spring LS on 17s, so to say the A8 rides as well as "the LS" using yours as an example isn't a fair comparison.

I also agree with you about the A8 riding about the same as yours yet handling better. That's why I said I wouldn't buy an LS with the sport suspension and wouldn't put it on UHP tires. If I wanted a better handling car...I'd buy an A8.

This is why I changed my wheels and tires from 18s with high performance tires to 17s with Michelins. Much more comfortable riding car this way !

Thats why I chose the 18s on the 460 instead of the 19s (the 19s on the 460 have the same 45 series tires as the 18s on the 430, the 460 runs high sidewall tires with the 18s). The 19s look better for sure, as the 18s do on the 430, but this car is a great riding car and thats really what it is at its core, so I wanted the best ride.
