Purchase Advice
been looking for a 3rd gen for a bit. I found a 06 dark grey on black ultra lux w/ 52k miles meticulously owned. believe its a 2nd owner and the current owners are an older couple. you can tell they took care of the car and they've owned for majority of the time. they are asking 24k which seemed really high, basically got them down to 22k but its a 7 hour drive and not sure going through that hassle is worth the price. its clean and exactly what i would want jus not sure on the price. i checked kbb jus to see and it put it at 20700 in the condition its in. i know these aren't easily found as I've been looking on many sites. kinda wondering if i should maybe start looking for a 460?

For that price I'd expect to see a full service history from the local Lexus dealer and an absolutely pristine vehicle. Get the vehicle VIN number and look it up on the Lexus service site.
Any car is worth whatever someone is willing to pay. Who are you competing with for the purchase?
Many here prefer the 430 to the 460 and the 2006 LS430 is a good one! That said, it's 10 years old now....

If your budget is $24k I would definitely look at a LS460. That's crazy money. When I was looking a few months back there was a 05 with 50k miles, not UL though and a Lexus dealer was asking $19k for it which I thought was nuts. It sat for a while and probably went for a few thousand less. The 430 is a fine model for sure and I know many here prefer them, but you should be able to find a better deal.

Maintenance is more important than milage on these cars.
And you can recondition these cars for $3,000 or so - new motor mounts, new struts, new control arm bushings, a timing belt, and fresh fluids all around.
On the 04-06s, I'd like to see a transmission and power steering fluid change at 60k miles, and maybe every 30k thereafter. But if you get it before 100k, it's probably fine. For that reason, I wouldn't really care about the milage difference between 60-90k miles.
Lastly, I'd recommend waiting for the right car. Or expanding your search area. Black interior ULs aren't super rare, and good cars are worth it. consider looking for a 15k car and using the extra money to fix / repair / refresh everything!
Happy hunting!

That's crazy money for that car. I don't care what a carfax says. Get a newer 460. The 430 is a great car but they can be over priced. Keep looking u should be able to get that same car for 15 16k Good Luck

very high. not rare, now find a black UL with the caramel interior and the burnt orange trim (not sure what its called) ive only seen one, that would qualify as rare. I don't even like the Ls430 but oh my dear god that thing was beautiful and would have bought that right then and there if the owner was willing to part with it. lol

nah.stick with the 430. Sounds like a nice example. I'd be real polite, mention some competitive quotes for similar vehicles, and tell them you'd like to check back in a few weeks if they can't meet your price now. Mention the common concern about the air strut replacement cost...use that to your advantage.
btw, good price for that car might be 18 or so.

Putting the price aside, even with the low mileage, you are still buying a 10 year old car. For that kind of money there are other choices out there. For the first series LS430s (01-03) it's a no brainer when buying because they are so cheap (if you can find a good one).

Your intuition about an LS460 is quite good. The post Model Year 2012 cars are fantastic, and I expect they'll get quite cheap when the next LS is announced. We've seen a concept for it, my money says that we'll know all about it in the next year.
If you want to wait for an LS460, why not get a 1998-2003 LS in the mean time. You can get a car that's right at the bottom of its depreciation curve.

No, it's absurdly over priced. Especially considering it's a private party. They are just fishing and hoping there's someone out there dumb enough to buy it.
I like these cars, but I don't think it's worth getting completely shafted in order to find a clean one.
Saving around $7,000+ by buying one with say 90k miles instead of 52k miles makes a lot of sense. You're certainly not going to spend anywhere near that maintaining it as a result of the higher mileage.
