Oil Pan Gasket DIY

Just don't use too much and you'll be fine. Use the FSM and follow the directions. This is what the factory uses and what Toyota has used for 4 decades. It works.

Just an FYI, I just had this done at a shop and they charged $280 including the oil change. I don't have all the equipment to jack up the engine, so it was well worth it to get fixed especially after dealing with the slow leak for months.

sorry to bump this back up but i have a question on the gasket...
From my understanding...the gasket is pretty much just the RTV applied right? are the guys using fel-pro just using plain fel-pro and no sealant?
thanks! I'm gonna have to do this soon, mine leaks

Before going through the effort of lifting the engine etc, try checking the oil level sensor and the dip stick o ring. I thought my oil pan was leaking and it turned out to be those two items which are quite common. Good luck.

I just did this job but had to remove both oil pans. The upper pan adds a bunch of time and complexity. I used the Toyota fipg as instructed by the service manual. It is definitely not the same formulation as the grey or black rtv I have used in the past. If you look through my post you will see how sloppily the fipg was applied at the factory. All of it that was on the inside exposed to oil was very brittle but wasn't going anywhere unless it was disturbed.

Thanks for posting DIY. I just bought and 02 430 LS with 90k miles. Took it to theLexus store for a pre purchase inspection. They found a cracked upper oil pain. The car does not have any leaks. I am thinking a hairline fracture. What would you do if you were me? Lexus dealer wants 3600$ to replace pan. Lexus private Mechanic wants 2300$ Seller says just drive it and don't fix . Thanks for your thoughts. Tim
ps. How much disconnecting of engine components other than engine mounts have to be done to lift the motor. Tim

Cracked but not leaking? Then why does it matter?

Toyota's FIPG is one of (if not THE) finest products on the market. Many engine builders outside of the toyota scene use it because it is just that good.

Questions..
Decided to do my oil pan gasket tonight. Fairly simple job.
-Jack up front of car
-remove lower cover 10mm screws
-drain oil
-remove each of the 2 motor mount nuts 17mm
-lift engine using hoist or jack
-remove the oil pan bolts 10mm's. A universal socket helps here.
-remove oil pan (may have to pry slightly to break seal)
-clean oil pan and mounting surface as well as bottom of motor where it was removed from. Razor blade, die grinder, brake cleaner, etc..
-use RTV silicone (I like the grey the best)and put a good bead around the oil pan.
-reinstall pan and tighten bolts.
-lower engine and reinstall motor mount nuts
-give time for silicone to set up and dry. At least an hour to be safe
Add oil and check for leaks 👍🏼
